Well people can die from any cancer. They may not get screened enough as recommended and not catch it early enough.

Hello Sky Why do they die ???? this one is tough.,it known as the "Silent Killer",because it is exactly that. Most of the time there is not much pain associated with this type of cancer,The main precursor sign is blood in the stool for which they sell some do-it-at home kits(efficacy of those is hummm..shall we say disputable. It is on the other hand very treatable with either chemotherapy or surgery or a combination of the two with amazing results in the upper 90%.The thing is the exam.....the colonoscopy ,most people are refractory to this for a very good reason,it is not a very pleasant one to go through. Also In most people mind no pain=no cancer which is so wrong in this case. You always go on an all out campaign about cancerous foods, smoking, and go to genetic counselling. An exam and catching this before it metastasize or scrap the entire digestive tract.Prevention is the key in this as it is for most diseases

Colon cancer is where there is a malignancy where there is an uncontrollable growth of the cells that line the inside of the colon or rectum. There could be two types of symptoms with colon cancer: Local and Systemic. Local Symptoms are basically your bathroom habits: - changes in bowel movements - constipation - diarrhea - alternating constipation and diarrhea - bright or dark red blood in stools Systemic symptoms are ones that affect the your entire body: - weight loss - loss of appetite - unexplained fatigue - nausea - anemia - jaundice ( yellow color to skin) Like other said before me a lot of people die from this cancer because they might not be getting screen regularly because they may be embarassed or it may have not been caught in time. I think I read a study somewhere where it said that 40% of the cases of the death could have been prevented by regular screening but do not quote me on that for sure

You have received a couple of sincere answers to a very serious question but as a cancer survivor I must take issue with the phrase "preventable cancer" which seems to insinuate that a victim of cancer was remiss somehow in preventing the disease from striking. I believe "very treatable cancer, if caught early enough" would be a kinder and more apt wording. Best wishes to you.

Most people on here have giving good answers. Like most cancers, if caught early its very treatable. And even if it has spread, colon cancer responds well to treatments. So in many cases its very beatable. However, as others have said, in some unfortanant cases this cancer can spread to vital organs without the person have symptoms. In those cases often a full recovery can be difficult. Sadly this is one of the few cancers where survival rates are worse with young people then older people. And the main reason why is because its found more at a late state with younger people ( 30s and 40s), since preventitive measures often are not taken. But that being said it is still very rare in people under 45.

People die from cancer BECAUSE it is not preventable. If it was truly preventable than we would know how to treat it and no one would get cancer . . but we don't. No one even knows exactly what makes one person get cancer while someone else will not. You have been misinformed if you think it is preventable. The only known precursor appears to be age . . cancer is often age specific and the older an individual is the more likely he or she may develop cancer at some point in their life . .no one knows exactly which type though. Colon cancer affects older adults and rarely if ever children or adolescents . . it also rarely affects young adults. With most types of cancer, including colon . . there are no symptoms, no pain, and no indication that anything is wrong until the disease is advanced or interfering with normal body activity . . by that time a patient knows they have cancer. Early stage disease rarely if ever creates any problem in the body as it is too small or grows around structures. and can co-incide quite nicely within the body. Any reported 'symptoms' are vague and non specific enough for most people to ignore or attribute to other ailments. Colon cancer is not preventable.

There are no precursor symptoms. Sometimes people are lucky to have symptoms before it has progressed too far, but many times they don’t and patients do not have stage 4 disease with no symptoms at all. This cancer cannot be cured without surgery – period and if you need chemo your chances of survival have dropped dramatically. As with many cancers people die because it was not found early enough and as with all cancers it is not preventable.
