Cancer of the stomach and it's very serious, nothing to play with. If you think you might have this, you need to get checked by a Doctor asap, that way they can detect if it's spreading or not.
2 :
Colon cancer is a cancer that starts in the large intestine (colon). Cancer in general is characterized by disordered growth of cells that invade surrounding tissues and sometimes have the potential to spread. Colon cancer is very serious, but if discovered early has a very good chance of being successfully treated.
3 :
The colon and rectum are organs of the digestive system located in the abdomen and pelvis between the small intestine and the anal canal. Together, the colon and rectum make up the large intestine or colon. Because of their close proximity, cancers of the two organs are often discussed together under the term colorectal cancer. The treatment and pattern of recurrence of colon and rectal cancer are affected by the location of the primary tumor and its relationship to the surrounding structures. The colon initiates at the juncture between the small intestine and the large intestine, called the ileocecal sphincter (valve). The first part of the colon is the cecum, with the appendix lying at the lower edge. The ascending colon travels up vertically on the right side of the abdomen to the hepatic flexure, and then the transverse colon, which is often not transverse, extends across the abdomen and normally hangs down in a loop which may be as low as the pelvis. Finally, the descending colon leads down vertically on the left side of the body and terminates in the sigmoid colon, which is the narrowest part of the large bowel, and it terminates with the upper rectum. The rectum is the last section of the gastrointestinal tract and leads to the anus. (quote from: http://www.smile.org.au/cancers/colorectal%20cancer.htm) Suggestions: 1. visit the website "www.smile.org.au" for more details about the symptoms, effects, causes and prevention of colon cancer, as well as a wide range of therapies. 2. Don't guess by yourself, it's very dangerous to do so. Pls visit a specialty doctor ASAP. Cancer is more possible to be cured in the early stage.

I live in Indiana, and a friend of mine was just diagnosed with pancreatic and colon cancer

I live in Indiana, and a friend of mine was just diagnosed with pancreatic and colon cancer.?
They had surgery yesterday, which prolonged their life(They were only given 6mths originally, now because of the surgery they have up to 5 years) but the medical costs are more than they can bear. Are there any charities, foundations, organizations, etc that could help cushion the blow on some of these costs? They aren't famous or anything, but in my little corner of the world they are GREATLY important.

The hospital that preformed the surgery will be more than happy to help your friend find help with the costs. (They want their money.) Also, hospitals can't sue you as long as you keep paying them something (Even if it's $10.) every billing period.
2 :
Why don't you help out by arranging a local fundraiser, like a spaghetti dinner or silent auction, or anything along those lines. You could also set up some sort of fund at a local bank branch. If the person was/is employed, what many employers will do is allow other employees to donate unused sick/vacation/PTO time to have the cash equivalant donated to the person.
3 :
I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. :( You might try getting in touch with the United Way of your community, they could probably point you in the right direction if they themselves can't help you. Good luck!
4 :
I see yet another compassionate answer from NASI. Ignore him. I think he's only about 9 years old. Anyway, yes, there are usually local charities that can and will help. Look in your local telephone book or ask at the hospital. Check with your church and clergy and any Masonic group you have locally. Best of luck to you and to your friend!!
5 :
First, the person's health insurance. Second, the person's own savings. Third, talk to the people who think your friend is "greatly important." Fourth -bankruptcy. Person should have enough health insurance, not gamble on hoping people will come to his rescue. I'm sad for his condition, but I'm even sadder that he thinks EVERYONE ELSE is his insurers.

Lord my God Here is someone who has been given a time limit own their life Lord, Lord it is up to you when it is ones time to come home to you, Lord this person needs you and I am coming to you Lord for a miracle, I am asking Lord that you see to it that all their needs are meet, Lord, And place your healing hands own them Lord and heal them Lord for they are still Important to others, lord and fill them with your holy spirit so that they know you and trust in you Lord for their healing and all their needs, Lord wrap your arms around them Lord and comfort them and let them know that you are a healing God and that you died so that they may be saved,In your precious name I ask lord, Amen, God bless you and all The Lord is shining His healing light own you and your Friend, The Lord healed me and He is good for his promises just trust in Him for all your needs, God bless the USA and Israel and All
7 :
they should consider bankrupcy. If they are totally against that, the hospital can work things out with them for a payment plan..

To help prevent further problems - Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since – more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.

There are many ways to cover the medical costs from charities, to fund raising. Your friend needs to call the local American Cancer Society to see what local charities are available. He needs to call the social workers at the clinic or hospital where he receives treatment for advice. And he needs to read the website information provided below. CancerCare is an online FREE social service that will offer guidance. Your friend should also make sure he is treated at a hospital that is under the Hill-Burton program - the program will cover treatment at FREE or LOW COST service. CancerCare http://www.cancercare.org/ Medical Insurance and Financial Assistance for the Cancer Patient http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MIT/content/MIT_3_2X_Medical_Insurance_and_Financial_Assistance_for_the_Cancer_Patient.asp? She should also check out Medicare, Medicade, and SS disability benefits. The Hill-Burton Program is a federal program where a number of hospitals provide free or low cost services to patients unable to pay. 2 :
Many people with colon cancer experience no symptoms in the early stages of the disease. When symptoms appear, they'll likely vary, depending on the cancer's size and location in large intestine. In early cases there may not be any symptoms. Common symptoms are----- * A change in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool for more than a couple of weeks * Rectal bleeding or blood in your stool * Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain * Abdominal pain with a bowel movement * A feeling that your bowel doesn't empty completely * Weakness or fatigue * Unexplained weight loss
3 :
Honey usually blood in your stools and weight loss, but that's usually in the later stages, if you have a bleed it could be a pollop or heammeriods. If youre that worried go to the chemist and get a bowel cancer screening home test kit to set your mind at ease. Hope this helps.

# My father has cancer in his colon, 2 of the 3 lobes in his liver, lymph nodes and pelvis. What are the chances # How do doctors detect colon cancer

My father has cancer in his colon, 2 of the 3 lobes in his liver, lymph nodes and pelvis. What are the chances?
He is being treated at the Michael E. Debakey VA hospital in houston. They have not told us yet how aggressive or what treatment options are. What do the chances of battling this and winning look like? Please only doctors or nurses

Noone can tell exactly how his chances are. But i can tell you the surviving-statistics. He is in stadium UICC 4. (because of liver and pelvis metastasis) The survivingrates (Kaplan meier curve) of stadium 4 are the following: One year after diagnosis survive 50%; 2 years 23%; 3 years 17%; 4 years 12%; 5 years 10%. (see the source below) Note that this is nothing more than statistics, in a single case that doesn't mean much... Chemotherapy can slow down the desease, but healing chances are not so high. It also depends on the possibility of surgical treatment. I wish yout the very best, sorry not beeing able to tell you something better...
2 :
Stage 4 colon cancer is not curable. The 5 year survival rate is 5%. Although aggressiveness plays a part in how long he will survive, the cancer is already wide spread and the most immediate danger is how much it has damaged his liver. I’m sorry to say it is not likely your father will be in the 5%. How long he survives will depend on how he responds to treatment.

Yes. I live in NY and we have a county hospital that will let the uninsured go for about 20 dollars a visit. Check if your city have a community hospital, they will help. Or go to your local Social Service Department (welfare office) and get Medicaid to help with the expenses. If you are not ashamed to go then do it. Colon Cancer is no joke. If I was uninsured I would run right down to Social Service in a heart beat, cause I am a tax payer and I deserve the help if I become underprivledged.
2 :
yes there is...there is something that they will never tell you...you have to probe around for it..its a charity thing some hospitals do (im not sure if they all do it) but here in oklahoma they do.its where they write off the expenses to charity and it wont cost you a dime...my wife did the same thing and so did i.i had a heart screening and i was also hositalized and all of it got took care of by that charity gig.its called a charity grant or something like that. the doctors never talk about it and its something that is suppose to be on the down low. but look into it and if they have it there they will give you some papers to fill out. good luck and God bless
3 :
try contacting your county, most counties have some sort of free & reduced clinic, you would need to ask if that's something they would cover
