lol, you have hemorrhoids.... =D
2 :
My mom had a similar situation. Her remedy was to start taking calcium w/ Vitamin D supplement. I don't believe that your symptoms are indicative of colon cancer. Sounds more like a muscle problem. Calcium (oyster shell is good) w/ Vitamin D may give you some relief. Good luck.

I'd say you have a hemorrhoid problem. You should consult the opinion of specialists though. Here's the source where I always find my answers: http://www.myhealth-forum.com/

What are some symptoms of colon cancer

In the early stages there usually aren't any symptoms. When they do occur, the most common symptoms are pain in the belly, especially gas pains, cramps, or a feeling of fullness, blood in your stool or very dark stools, and a change in your bowel habits. Other less common symptoms include fatigue and unexplained weight loss. You can read more here http://www.medicinenet.com/colon_cancer/article.htm I would advise that you see your doctor to determine exactly what is going on.
2 :
yeah..thats cancer, sorry.
3 :
you can get the answers here: http://coloncancer.about.com/od/screening/a/Cancer_Symptoms.htm
4 :
On your right side? That's not where your colon is. It's on the left. Your gallbladder is on the right. So, why don't you see a doctor?
5 :
Please get a checkup
6 :
You should really go to the doctor to get colon tests done to make sure you don't. Even if you don't the tests can show polyps in your colon (which is a precursor to colon cancer) and if they are caught by the test then they can be removed therefore actually preventing cancer.
7 :
See a Gastroenterologist (GI specialist) ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!! You may not have colon cancer but another problem. Have a colonoscopy. The prep for the test is worse then the test itself. I have had this test done many times and it's not a big deal. If you can't get into seeing a GI specialist go to the ER. (you can always make your symtoms sound like an emergency) and you never know-they just might be. Good Luck!!!(Tsull73 is a nut job-don't listen to him but do see a DR.)
8 :
Symptoms of colon cancer are abdominal pain, blood in your stools, change of colour in stools. Those were the symptoms that my mum suffered before being diagnosed with colon cancer. She was sent for a colonoscopy and thats when doctors confirmed she had a tumor in her colon. If you think that something is not right go to the doctors.
9 :
It could be your liver causing these problems.I recently lost my brother to liver failure from taking so many meds for post polio. 2 weeks before he died he called me and asked what it felt like when I had colon cancer and I told him the colon is on the left side. Liver on the right. It was too late for him.But it could also be gallbladder.
10 :
Your colon is on your left AND your right side. The ascending colon is on the right side then the traverse colon goes across the right to the left and the descending colon is on the left side. If you are constipated enough you can have pain on your right side as you may be that far backed up. I had a problem with constipation for 15+ years but my doctor did not think it was an issue. I finally had a colonoscopy in Jan 2005 (at the age of 40) and it was discovered I have stage IV colon cancer. In 2001 I had asked for a colonoscopy, but my Dr did not think I needed one, and requested a barium enema instead. It totally missed my tumour. It is important that you get checked, and I would only recommend a colonoscopy as it has the highest detection rate. The medical community feels that screening should begin at the age of 50, but I know many people with cc (stage IV -advanced) in their 20s, 30s and 40's. I don't know your age but if you are under the age of 50 and do not have any family history of cc, I would play up your symptoms so that you will get tested and not dismissed. Wendy www.wendysbattle.com
11 :
You need to go and see a Gastroenterologist. There are many things that can cause the symptoms you are describing besides colon cancer. Inflammatory bowel disease, gall bladder, plain constipation from lack of fiber etc. Go to a doctor ASAP to put your mind at ease.

Why do women with ovarian or uterine cancer have a higher risk of getting colon cancer

Why do women with ovarian or uterine cancer have a higher risk of getting colon cancer?
why?
Medicine - 2 Answers

1 :
It is because of direct seeding. Since the organs are generally in direct contact with each other the tumor could come in contact with the colon and cancer cells could get to the colon directly through this contact. When surgery removes the tumor some of the cells that got transfered may get missed and may for a tumor in the colon
2 :
The ovaries, uterus and colon all reside within the peritoneal cavity in the abdomen (along with other organs like the kidneys and the liver) They share a common lymphatic drainage system (the pelvic an inguinal lymph nodes), as well as a common circulatory system (the mesenteric, iliac and hypogastric arterial and venous system). Additionally, they are in actual physical contact with each other. This means that there are multiple opportunities for the cancer to metastasize (spread from the orginal tumor site), either through direct seeding via organ to organ contact, or via the lymphatic and circulatory systems. Usually by the time such cancers are detected, there are already metastatic sites in the abdominal cavity, or multiple positive lymph nodes. The liver is also a site at high risk for metastatic uterine or ovarian cancer.

Why can breast tumors be imaged with a scanner but colon or pancreatic cancer cannot? What is the difference?

Why can breast tumors be imaged with a scanner but colon or pancreatic cancer cannot? What is the difference?
Just wondering why it is possible to get detailed picture of breast tumor from a scanning machine but not other cancers such as colon
Cancer - 3 Answers

1 :
I'm not sure I totally understand your question, but I'll try . . Breast lumps are imaged using mammography, which uses x-rays. The breast tissue is compressed as thin as possible to allow lumps to be seen. Colon cancer would be difficult to detect using "a scanner" (that is, a CT scan) unless the tumor was quite large. This is because you cannot compress the colon to allow good visualization, not to mention the abdominal fat, muscles, and organs that are in the way. Stool in the colon also makes it difficult for a CT scan to get a clear picture of a small polyp. Instead, the colon is cleaned out and a small camera is used to visualize polyps, which are small growths that may be precancerous. Pancreatic cancer can be visualized using a CT scan, but often pancreatic cancer is not symptomatic until the tumor is quite large, which is why pancreatic cancer is not often caught until it is in it's late stages. Using CT to screen for pancreatic cancer would require exposing people to a fair amount of radiation on a regular basis, which could put someone at risk for other types of cancer from radiation exposure. Even if you did, because the pancreas is a dense organ, small tumors might not show up. Most tests that screen for cancer aim to detect tumors when they are still quite small. It is simply not possible to do this with many of your internal organs. P.S. Mammograms, CTs, and MRIs cannot really provide a "detailed" picture of a tumor. Any mass that appears suspicious for malignancy must still be biopsied (that is, a sample is taken directly from the tumor and studied at the cellular level under a microscope) to provide enough information to allow appropriate diagnosis, staging, and to guide treatment. Hope this helps.
2 :
It has to do with the density of the tumor. Cancer is formed when normal cells from the surrounding tissues "go crazy" and start to reproduce at an abnormally fast rate. Breast tissue is very dense, so therefore cancer cells created from breast tissue will naturally be more dense, too. But, colon and pancreas tissue is comparatively thin and not so dense. Therefore, you need other kinds of diagnostic tools to be able to see diagnose those cancers.
3 :
Different parts of the body are made up differently, and some areas are easier for some scanning technologies to visualize. There is some work being done in "virtual colonoscopy", which is basically a scan of the colon. Check out http://www.cancerdoubts.com There's information on cancer detection/cancer screening.

What would you like to ask?i have a father with colon cancer

What would you like to ask?i have a father with colon cancer..?
i have a father with colon cancer..i want him to undergo citiscan without referal from a doctor. Is it harmful for his health???

If your father is being treated for colon cancer, why would you want him to undergo any more testing than is actually required? A CT scan can be a useful tool - for Doctor's. It is useless in the hands of an uninformed lay person. You would need his Dr to interpret the results while taking into consideration all the other medical tests, examinations etc that have already been done.

I don't know if I can help, but my dad has liver cancer. They told him he only had 3 months to live and that he had to have chemotherapy. We he got a second opinion and found out that the radiation would kill his immune system that wasn't that great to begin with and he probably would be better off with out it. He didn't get the radiation and has been with us for 6 more years and still going strong. I would suggest to your mom to get several opinions so she can make an informed decision.
2 :
go to the hospital and find out about support groups this will help a great deal.
3 :
Your Mom's multiple diagnosis of cirrhosis, hepatitis, and regionalized colon cancer presents a substantial medical challenge. Each of these conditions is extremely serious. You mention lymph node involvement and ask if that means "nothing" can be done. Fortunately, treatments are available for all stages of cancer, including regionalized. You Mom may be offered a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Your Mom's oncologist will conduct testing and imaging to assess the exact location(s) and characteristics of your Mom's cancer. The oncologist will then present a detailed treatment plan based on the stage and nature of her condition. Special attention will be taken due to the cirrhosis and hepatitis. The American Cancer Society is a good resource of information on the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of cancer. I attached their weblink below. Best wishes.

Is there another way to detect colon cancer than by a fecal sample

Is there another way to detect colon cancer than by a fecal sample?

Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
CT scan, MRI, PET scan, x-ray, colonoscopy can all be used in the detection of colon tumors. They are used as follow-up tools for patients who have gone through surgery / chemo / radiation. Once a tumor is noted, biopsy is necessary to determine if there is cancer (some tumours are benign). But they would generally only be used for a patient already showing other symptoms, or with a positive fecal sample. Colonoscopy is sometimes used routinely from a certain age as part of a screening program. Fecal sample does not determine cancer - it shows only that there is blood in the stool. This can be caused by other issues (e.g. colitis)
2 :
You can’t detect cancer with a fecal sample. If it is not found on a screening colonoscopy than it is usually due to the patient’s symptoms and if possible a colonoscopy is done at that time. If it is bad enough the patient will go straight to surgery a biopsy is not necessary.

Could i have colon cancer or am i just paranoid

Could i have colon cancer or am i just paranoid?
okay since i was five ive been having a bowel movement once every 3 day's but now my stomach has been hurting but it's usually just gas but the last 3 time's i've had a bowel movement there's been a little bit of blood on the toliet paper. and i have anxitey so i get really scared when i see ab-normal thing's. but moving on i think there could be blood from pushing to hard? because i tend not to eat fruit or vegtables and i'm little over weight. but pleasee someone help.

Chill out!! It sounds like you are pushing too hard. Be careful, you can get hemorrhoids if you keep pushing so hard. I have the same problem, just learn to live with it!
2 :
Instead of guessing and wondering and worrying, it is probably time to go see your doctor and talk about your symptoms. Any time you see blood in your stool or on the toilet paper after you wipe, you should probably get it checked out. Bleeding is not normal. It may be just from pushing too hard, but constipation is not normal either. I was diagnosed with anal cancer recently and my only symptom was blood in the stool. I'm not trying to scare you, just letting you know that it's a good idea to consult your doctor.
3 :
what color is the blood? is it bright red or is it dark almost black? if it's bright red, you're experiencing the beginnings of hemorrhoids. stop straining so mucn. dark blood is an indicator of internal bleeding. that would need to be checked out by your physician. even if the blood is bright red, i'd be a little concerned only because you say you eat lots of fruit. you should be a more regular than every three days, though admittedly there's no hard and fast rule as to what is regular. do you drink an adequate amount of water? try increasing your fiber intake. use a stool softener. my concern is you may have some sort of blockage. again see your physician.
4 :
You’re just paranoid. A little bit of blood does not make a colon cancer symptom and very unlikely if you are under 40 years old and is sounds like you are. Make changes in your diet.
5 :
Most likely you have an internal hemorrhoid. A hemorrhoid is just a varicose vein of the anus. Now if you have to push hard to have a bowel movement you are probably a bit constipated. And if your stool is formed in pellets looking but stuck together, that's constipation too. It should come out easily and it should sort of be in the shape of a "S" or a "C" and it should be like play dough coming out of one of the play dough toys that push play dough through a thinggee... not lumpy pellets. Trust me, you really don't want to some day have to have hemorrhoid surgery. So you need to up your fiber. If you can't then either drink something like Benefiber or take fiber tablets. (fiber tablets are not all created equal.)
