Stage 4 is terminal. They might be able to sustain a stage 4 patient for 2 years or so. The end result is that they aren't going to make it. The rest of the story is that neither are you or I. We are all terminal and we may meet the Maker tomorrow in front of a truck or just fade away in our sleep. The fact is, we are all terminal and nobody is going to get out of this alive. The main concern is to determine where we are going to go NEXT! No matter if your day of destruction is tomorrow or 2 years from tomorrow, you need to prepare for that inevitable end. Our salvation is found in Romans - Philemon ... Belief in the ONE Lord, ONE Faith and ONE baptism (not of water). It isn't what we do (or don't do). It isn't about our behavior. It IS about what we BELIEVE. Abraham's belief was counted unto him as righteousness. Yours is too. Johnny

I'm so sorry that something has happened in your life that you need to ask that question. Colon cancer has touched my family, both with stage 4 colon cancer that took my grandfather when I was very young, and with a pre-metastisized (sp?) carcinoma that was found in my colon nearly 20 years ago. The first thing I would say is *don't* focus too much on the numbers. The fact of the matter is that, whatever percentage you may see, it reflects at least thousands of people who have beat this horrible disease. Treatment options continue to expand and improve. Regardless of the treatment path that is chosen, one of the most important things in recovery is the person's *outlook* on recovery. Knowing in your heart that you can beat it, and telling yourself you *can* beat it is so very important. If you want to look at numbers, it's also important to remember that it's more than just the "stage" of the cancer that plays a part. Some of the impact is in the organs that are affected and the level at which they are affected. For example, the link below indicates that there is a *much* higher survival rate for stage IV colon cancer patients that have 3 or fewer liver mestates (as high as 30%, compared with the 5% rate that is often quoted for stage IV colon cancer in general.) http://www.alternative-cancer-treatments.com/colon-cancer-prognosis.htm
3 :
Stage 4 carcinoma/cancer is terminal depends on how aggressive the treatment is and how relatively healthy the person is..meaning other diseases this person may have like diabetes or heart disease. As to how long the life span is no one knows but the good Lord himself

Hey! Yes most definetly. I am a stage four colon cancer survivior. I was only 30 when I found out. I am getting ready to turn 32 and I am currently off chemo. I believe in Jesus, and I pray and cry out to Him when I get depressed. I get that way alot it seems. it Is alot to deal with. If you have any other questions... email me...
2 :
Depression is common with any type of cancer. I am a breast cancer survivor (coming up on 6 years since I was diagnosed). I frequently went to bed very early to hide my depression from my husband and sons. I didn't want to over burden them with my illness as well as depression. Part of the depression stems from having to give up control of your life for a short period of time while you undergo treatment and not knowing how your body will respond. Just take it one day at a time, try not to dwell too much on the unknown and do something fun everday (watch a silly movie or anything that makes you laugh). My sister, who was a great support to me (she is also a cancer survivor) recommended keeping a journal, you can rant and rave all you want on paper and someday you will look back and the journal and say think Wow, I kicked Cancer's Butt. My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer about 9 years ago and he kicked it's butt too. He is now 82 years old.

I am so sorry for that diagnosis. Of course, everyone feels depressed when they get any type of bad news. I hope you have discussed with your doctor your options, treatments. etc. Let us know! And new treatments are always on the horizon so you never know. I am a retired x-ray tech and saw many people treated with new treatments. Take care and keep us posted on how you are doing.

2 :
If you have hope, you can do anything I wish you hope.
3 :
Well, it depends on the course of treatment you are able to get. I would think that the earlier it is found, the better. Also along with the exact site & size of it too. Explore all the possible treatments. My aunt has had it twice and beat it twice. You may want to check out the American Cancer Society's web site. There is lots of information there, along with clinical trials too.

Although my wife did not have colon cancer, she did have much radiation to her head and neck. She had several normal body functions (saliva, swallowing, speech, hair, etc) that did not work the same or at all after radiation. I guess the way to look at it is that it is better than the alternatives (my wife did die after three years of fighting). The only thing I can tell you is that I would gladly have my wife back with me even with all the life changing stuff that went along with her treatments. The best of luck to you.
