my dad has colon cancer, when you cannot undergo chemo because of liver failure.
4 :
Colonoscopy.
5 :
Bloody stools, Changes in bowel habits. Unintentional weight loss & lack of appetite. The sooner it is detected, the more likely treatment is to cure it.

If you depend on YA to prepare your road map then I am sure you are not concerned about such a serious disease and its consequences.Even the doctors can not suggest you anything in writing as per the decorum.
7 :
People hear the “C” word and immediately know it’s serious. But the double C, colon cancer, is even more frightening. According to the American Cancer Society, 50% of colon cancer related deaths could be prevented if all people over the age of 50 were tested for the disease. Plus, colon cancer starts as a non-cancerous growth. If this is caught and removed, you will prevent cancer from ever forming! This is why having a colon cancer test is so important. There are many different types of colon cancer tests. For instance, a colon cancer blood test detects the presence of blood that is hidden in the feces. Blood in the feces can be an indicator of polyps -precancerous growths- in the rectum. I have emphysema and just found out I have colon cance

I have emphysema and just found out I have colon cancer.?
does anyone have any sugessions about my survival rate?

It all depends on the severity of your cancer and of your emphysema. Ask your doctors because any sort of general answer you get here will not be based on your individual case. You could become unduly encouraged or depressed without any realistic reason for those feelings. I wish you the best but you really need to talk to your doctors. Good luck!! : /
2 :
I dont know how aggressive the cancer is. All i can say is that u will die eventually. Im really sorry for u deepest sympathies.
3 :
Before you start any standard medical treatment - please see the BBC News Report - link shown below and also the Rick Simpson Cancer "Run from the Cure" site. It is about Hemp oil (not Hemp Seed oil) curing cancer within about a 3 month period - he is not selling anything - he is informing the public about a natural cure that the big pharmacuticals companies do not want you to know about. As they cannot buy a patent for a plant to make money on it. It is on "youtube" under "Run from the Cure" also or go straight to the "Phoenix Tears" website. This is not a quack cure - scientists have proof this plant cures all sorts of cancers/diseases - trouble is - we are not allowed it - we have to make it ourselves. It has been on BBC News see the link below.

Movin to LA - we're all going to die eventually, that was a mean thing to say, maybe it just didn't come out right??

The stage is the most important survival factor. And the sooner you have it removed the lower the stage. If the cancer is confined to the wall and hasn't spread anywhere (stage 1) the survival is more than 90%. If it has grown through the bowel wall but not spread to the lymph nodes the survival is almost 80%. The stage is determined by the pathologist through his examination of the removed cancer bearing colon segment. The best thing for you to do at this point is to have the cancer removed through surgery. Do not listen to the conspiracy theories presented by garlic girl. Although she denies it she is advocating quackery. If you experiment with that sort of treatment you risk that your cancer progress to a higher stage than it already is and consequently lowering your chance of survival. Here is a site with the stage dependent survival of colon cancer: http://www.webmd.com/colorectal-cancer/guide/treatment-stage

Have you ever researched the benefits of medical marijuana? Look it up, read it, open your mind.
2 :
Get a referal to a pain management clinic from your Dr. If you have had cancer treatment, especially for part of the digestive system, you shouldn't take any over-the-counter medications your Dr isn't aware of!

If someone is diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer + 3 out of 18 lymph nodes come back positive

What treatment would you recommend?

chemotherapy

Depending on where in the colon it is they may want to do radiation and chemotheray to shrink it before they remove it. If it's in the rectum they use radiation first, then try to remove. They can remove the colon completely or just part of it. I just had 12 inches removed but didn't have any in the lymph nodes. Cancer travels by way of the lymph nodes, this could mean they also have cancer in other parts of their body. They should get a CT Scan to see if it has traveled or not.

Can a 17-year-old male have rectal/colon CANCER?
My stomach always hurts.... When I inhale to push my stomach in, it hurts... Sometimes, it seems as if there are worms in my stomach.... I eat too much, and I'm not losing weight. But this morning, I found a blood in my stool. It's a rich, red blood.... It's not that big... I'm also not constipated,.... What could this be??? Tell me it's not colon cancer!!!! I'm REALLY worried!!!! =[

cant say it is or isnt but go and see a doctor
2 :
Well, a 17 year old male can have rectal / colon cancer, but there are also lots of other things it could be. You should go to see a doctor with those problems - there are plenty of things it could be, many of them not at all serious. No one on here can tell you what it is - even a qualified medical professional would need to examine you and would need more details than you've given us. The only thing you can do to ease your worry is go to the doctor.
3 :
The best advice is visit doctor ASAP!!!!!
4 :
first of all you should go see a doctor today. Could be anything from something minor to something more serious. But only a doctor will be able to run the proper tests to find out...../
5 :
no, colon cancer doesn't show up as bright red blood. What you are experiencing is bleeding from irritated internal hemmorhoids as a result of your chronic constipation. You need to drink a great deal more water to soften up those stools so you don't get constipated and irritate your hemmorhoids. The body requires two liters of water a day, and that means water only, not tea, not juice not coffee, not soda, just water.
6 :
17 is very young to have colon/rectal cancer. The few cases where it does occur are usually in families with a strong genetic predisposition. There are many other intestinal disorders that are more likely to be the culprit, things like Crohn's disease or ulcers. The blood you describe is coming from lower in your digestive tract, and could be anything from an abrasion to hemorrhoids. Bright red blood is blood that hasn't been digested. If it was coming from higher up, it would be black and tarry and smell really foul. I'm going to echo the chorus of people who are urging you to go see a physician ASAP. No matter what's going on with you, you don't want to mess around with pain and internal bleeding.

How do you know when you have colon cancer

How do you know when you have colon cancer.?
the last two days i have found blood in the water after going poop. i dont know if its colon cancer or what i ate. im going to the doctor tomorrow to see what it is. but what are the symptoms of colon cancer

1 :
Blood in the stools..but don't freak out just yet. If what you're seeing is bright red blood, it is more likely from an internal hemorrhoid than cancer. Or even a hard stool causing a small tear
2 :
yeah go to the doctor because that's very serious, it's very hard to realize if you may have it. good luck!!!!
3 :
there are many diagnosti tests that can determine if you have colon ca, = barium enema, colonoscopy,(a camera up your ass) CAT scan, lab tests on body fluids, you may also have a GI bleed which is serious but treatable, or possibly hemmorhiods
4 :
Listen to me...Please do not think that just because you have blood in your stool that you automatically have colon cancer. If it is bright red blood, there is probably nothing life threatening to worry about. You will go to the doctor tomorrow and he/she will send you to either a gastroenterologist or a general surgeon and you will need a colonoscopy. This procedure is so simple and could save your life. I have had several scopes done and it is no big deal. Please do not worry about the procedure or the blood in the toilet. It could be from eating popcorn or it could be a polyp that could be removed. You could have colitis or Crohn's disease, but do not worry about what it could be. Find out what it is. Good luck!!!

You may not be having Colon Cancer and do not get afraid. Please see your general Physician immediately and if necessary he will refer to an oncologist for further evaluation and treatment. Cancer of the colon is the disease characterized by the development of malignant cells in the lining or epithelium of the first and longest portion of the large intestine. Malignant cells have lost normal control mechanisms governing growth. These cells may invade surrounding local tissue, or they may spread throughout the body and invade other organ systems. Synonyms for the colon include the large bowel or the large intestine. The rectum is the continuation of the large intestine into the pelvis that terminates in the anus. Colon cancer causes symptoms related to its local presence in the large bowel or by its effect on other organs if it has spread. These symptoms may occur alone or in combination: - a change in bowel habit - blood in the stool - bloating, persistent abdominal distention - constipation - a feeling of fullness even after having a bowel movement - narrowing of the stool—so-called ribbon stools - persistent, chronic fatigue - abdominal discomfort - unexplained weight loss - very rarely, nausea and vomiting Most of these symptoms are caused by the physical presence of the tumor mass in the colon. Similar symptoms can be caused by other processes; these are not absolutely specific to colon cancer. The key is recognizing that the persistence of these types of symptoms without ready explanation should prompt the individual to seek medical evaluation. Many of the symptoms are understood by remembering that the colon is a tubular conduit. If a tumor develops, as it reaches a certain size it will begin to cause symptoms related to the obstruction of that conduit. In addition, the tumor commonly oozes blood that is lost in the stool. (Often, this blood is not visible.) This phenomenon results in anemia and chronic fatigue. Weight loss is a late symptom, often implying substantial obstruction or the presence of systemic disease. If you have any doubt do not neglect and byseeing your doctor please ensure that you are free from the disease - AS CANCER IS STILL AN ENIGMA.-
6 :
Colorectal cancer is the out-of-control growth of cells in the colon or rectum. These cells grow into masses, or tumors. Most colorectal cancers begin as polyps, which are growths attached to the inside of the colon or rectum. Symptoms of colorectal cancer usually occur later, when the cancer is are harder to treat. Common symptoms include: •Pain in the abdomen. •Blood in your stool or black, tarry stools. •A change in your bowel habits (such as very narrow stools or frequent diarrhea or constipation). •Unexplained weight loss. •Constant fatigue.

Go have a high colonic. Don't laugh or be embarrassed, this procedure is very helpful. Some massage therapists offer this service.
2 :
Usually Colon CA manifests in blood in the stool, dark tarry stools or occult blood in the stool. Occassionally you will find an unexplained anemia and should then go looking for a GI bleed (CA or not). Doing invasive tests such as a colonoscopy will confirm or refute your concerns but they are not without risk too...like a colon perforation - which is potentially life threatening. I would only recommend such a test if you were in a high risk category (a very strong family history and concerning symptoms - like occult blood in the stool) or were older than age 50 and never had one. I once saw in a medical school bathroom the following graffiti: "Its finals week. All I wish for is a normal bowel movement." I think sort of sums up your experiences. Especially when you don't have time, are stressed and probably sleep deprived is when you need to take the time to take care of your body. If the machine breaks down, then where would you be? Figure out how to do the right things for yourself - it is a matter of time management and prioritizing that which is most important. You will find throughout your career plenty of things which will distract you from taking care of yourself...don't let them. Start with the high fiber stuff - fruits and whole grained breads. Add Metamucil if you need to. Beware that suddenly adding fiber to your diet will probably make things worse at first (3 weeks) so do it judiciously. After that you can be more liberal with the fiber and have fewer bad effects (bloating, flatulence) and better more regular bowel movements. Also try adding any type of yogurt to your diet. You may have a bacterial imbalance after your amoeba treatment. By the way, high colonics have no clinical studies to demonstrate their effecacy. Good luck.
3 :
You really need to have a colonoscopy. If nothing else, the cleansing process needed beforehand will get you all cleaned out and maybe the bloated feeling will go away! Colon cancer starts from polyps, and if they don't finde any polyps, you're good to go, as it were...
4 :
GI bleeding very common in colon cancer. Get U/S gallbladder. Easy to do, and you want to rule it out anyway.

How long before a person dies from colon cancer

How long before a person dies from colon cancer?
just curious

The colon could perforate, and the patient would get septacemia, blood poisoning and eventually die from that in a matter of hours. Or the colon could hemorrhage and they might bleed to death in a matter of hours. Or they might devlop seondaries in the liver and die from that in six months to two years usually.
2 :
You didn't mention treated or untreated, which usually makes a difference. In any case, doctors can only guess, and patients have been known to die or survive when their doctors say otherwise. There's a woman minister/missionary in our church who should have been dead 20 years ago. Half the time when the doctors open her up they say "inoperable," sew her up and tell her she's got 2 weeks. A year later, they open her up and can't find any cancer. Of course, meanwhile we've got a lot of people praying for her. Left untreated, colon cancer is supposed to be one of the faster killers. However, in the last 30 years, this may be one of the cancers where the most new technology and new techniques have been applied, improving the survival rate tremendously. Sorry I can't nail this down for you.
3 :
It would depend a lot of personal factors. Colon cancer, or any cancer these days is not necessary a death sentence. My grandmother had colon cancer and had an op, resulting in having to get a colostomy bag. At that time, the docs gave her 10 years more to live. She also had secondary cancer after the colon cancer too, but many years later, resulting with the removal of a breast and survived all that successfully as well. She has overstepped all medical "expectancy" opinions so far, and still here 25 years later since the orginial dx of the colon cancer. She is only 73 years young, fully independent and no signs of any other problems with her health. She takes care of herself, follows the set medical advice, eats sensibly and just lives a simple life. It is a completely subjective thing based on what the specific situation entails for every person who is dx with colon cancer, but it definately does not always mean the end of hope.
4 :
It is dependent on many factors. First of all, colon cancer can be easily "cured" if caught early enough. As for survival times, the stage or the disease, responsiveness to treatment, the aggressiveness of the tumor and, the patient's age and overall health all play in the prognosis in any cancer not just colon cancer.
