If you have colon or rectal cancer do you ALWAYS have thin stools

If you have colon or rectal cancer do you ALWAYS have thin stools?
if you had colon or rectal cancer, would you ever have normal size, shape and color stools, or would they always be thin. I sometimes have thin stools (not anywhere near as thin as a pencil, but sometimes a little thinner than usual). For the most part, I have the same, normal size stool, but if i ever see that it is a little thinner, i get nervous. any advice? thanks! ..also, I have never seen blood in my stool

Thought we'd seen the last of the poop questions. Yours is normal. Eat the same thing, the same amount at the same times everyday and your poop will almost always look and smell the same.
2 :
You need to go to get a colonoscopy. The reason is this is bothering you so bad and you would be relieved to know you are fine. It sounds like what is happening to you sounds normal. But, you can have cancer and seem normal. The doctors say get a colonoscopy while you feel good. There is no reason now for anyone to have this horrible disease. If the polyp is found early it can be removed before it turns to cancer. I wish that there was some kind of support group for just being tested. I don't have anyone to take me to have this test done, and I need to have it done so bad, because of all my dad's family dying from it. This test is so aggravating to prepare for. I have had this test many years ago. It isn't bad because they gave me a nerve pill, and I don't remember the test being done. Seriously, consider having the test, because you are so worried and it will take a load off your mind. Rose
3 :
A single symptom is meaningless. No one’s stool is the same all the time that is normal.
4 :
I had a large rectal tumor for years and didn't know it until streaks of blood sometimes appeared. The stool would mostly be normal. You need a colonoscopy to relieve your mind and avoid a lot of heartache.

Is colon cancer surgery safe for 71 year old that has a leaky heart valve

Is colon cancer surgery safe for 71 year old that has a leaky heart valve?

Medicine - 1 Answers

I'd have to see the echocardiogram and the cardiologist's consultation report before making that determination. You don't say which valve, the degree of insufficiency, or make mention of the patient's functional status :) That patient is at some increased risk. However, the cancer needs to come out, so after cardiac optimization, the surgery will be done.

What is colon cancer and What does a person look like

What is colon cancer and What does a person look like?

You DON'T want to know. Maintain a high-fiber diet and never worry about this nasty, preventable ailment. The key to prevention is having clean pipes.
2 :
Colon Cancer is cancer of the Colon and can spread to your intestines and kills you. A person with colon cancer usually has bumps on their stomach and the rest of your skin. If you have colon cancer consult a doctor, and get some test done.
3 :
Someone has already told you what colon cancer is. I can tell you what my friend looks like with colon cancer. She is very very skinny and has trouble putting on any weight at all. She looks good in her face and she smiles alot and the only way you can tell anything is wrong is how thin she is.
4 :
The colon is the intestines. The large intestine. It is not preventable and it does not cause bumps on the skin. It starts in the colon for it to spread it has to break through the colon wall. It does not cause a person’s appearance to change, except that they may have a distended abdomen

What is the difference between colon cancer and diverticulitis and what are the symtoms of each

What is the difference between colon cancer and diverticulitis and what are the symtoms of each?

Cancer - 4 Answers

1 :
A diverticulum is a blind pouch leading off the alimentary tract, lined by mucosa that communicates with the lumen of the gut. Most individuals with diverticular disease remain asymptomatic throughout their lives, and the lesions are most often discovered incidentally. Only about 20% of those affected ever develop manifestations in the form of diverticulitis. These may include intermittent cramping or continuous lower abdominal discomfort, constipation, distention, and a sensation of never being able to completely empty the rectum. Patients sometimes experience alternating constipation and diarrhea. Occasionally there may be minimal chronic or intermittent blood loss, or rarely massive hemorrhages. Whether a high-fiber diet prevents such progression or protects against superimposed diverticulitis is still unclear. Diets supplemented with high fiber may provide symptomatic improvement, but the treatment may seem worse than the disease. Even when diverticulitis supervenes, it most often resolves spontaneously. Relatively few patients require surgical intervention for obstructive or inflammatory complications. Diverticulitis is NOT a cancer. Colon cancer, as the name implies, is a cancer on the colon, and without a doubt needs to be removed by a surgeon. -random physician
2 :
colon cancer is a malignant tumor that can kill. diverticulitis is inflammation of diverticulae. diverticulae are outpouchings of the colon. Diverticular disease can be painful, and irritating, and sometimes requires removal of part of the colon. the main symptom of diverticulosis (just having diverticulae) is abdominal pain. CA symptoms can be none, bleeding, pain, fever, etc.
3 :
Diverticulitis, is an inflammation of the diverticulum, more commonly of one or more colonic diverticula. this type of diverticulitis is caused by infection and causes lower abdominal pain with diarrhoea or constipation. A "Meckel's" diverticulum may sometimes become inflamed due to infection, causing symptoms similar to appendicitis. Colon Cancer, is when the colon has a malignant tumour, including carcinoma and sarcoma. it arises from the abnormal and uncontrolled division of cells that then invade and destroy the surrounding tissues.

I guess I know now...thanks for the info.
2 :
No, I didn't know this. This concerns me because I have an aunt who died from colon cancer last year...also she is from Montana, so go figure.
3 :
Hey Dottie. That's OK. You are free to pay for the test yourself - you do NOT have to rely on an insurance company. Just like you can pay to have your car 'diagnosed' and repaired, or pay for your new roof on your house (neither is covered by your car insurance or house insurance, respectively), you can pay for your own health care - especially preventive medicine. Best wishes. p.s. when Americans start paying for their own health care again, the prices will drop dramatically (economics 101).

This is really sad. I'm one of those very few who happen to be considered too young to even be considered. This sucks. Thanks for the info.

no if your crapping alot its a good thing colon cancer you have trouble going to the bathroom.

here's some sign's of it, Thin StoolOnce stool is no longer in its slushy phase and begins to take shape, how it looks when it leaves your body can provide clues to what's going on inside. For example, thin stool can sometimes indicate that your waste squeezed by some sort of obstacle on its way out. In the case of colon or rectal cancer, that obstacle would be a tumor in the latter part of the colon or the rectum.Stomach Cramps Sometimes a tumor causes a bowel obstruction, which is basically a road block in your colon. Depending on the severity of the blockage, solids, liquids, and even gas may be prevented from passing by. This leads to abdominal cramps that can be severe, especially if the blockage restricts blood flow to the colon. Painful cramps may also indicate that a tumor has perforated (poked through) the bowel wall; bowel perforation is a medical emergency.Hematochezia (Bloody Stool) Tumors tend to bleed -- not a whole lot and not constantly, but they do bleed. As a result, some of that blood may show up in your stool. If the tumor is in the beginning of the colon, the blood will most likely be dry and virtually invisible by the time the waste leaves your body. However, if the tumor is in the rectum or toward the end of the colon, it may still be fresh and therefore, bright red.Unexplained Weight Loss Many of us wouldn't want to question unexplained weight loss. We'd just be happy to be losing weight! But unfortunately, effortless weight loss is generally a sign that something is wrong. In the case of colon cancer, unexplained weight loss can be a sign that a tumor is releasing chemicals that are increasing your metabolism.Sense of FullnessA tumor that grows toward the end of the colon or in the rectum may cause a sense of fullness. This is because your body senses that there's something else hanging around by its exit. What it doesn't know is that it's a tumor and it's attached, so it isn't going anywhere. It basically sees the tumor as a stubborn piece of waste, so you get that "I still have to go" sensation that can't be relieved.Nausea and Vomiting Nausea and vomiting can occur for a lot of reasons. Motion sickness, an unpleasant sight or smell, a slew of common viruses, and drinking too much are all familiar causes. But sometimes, nausea and vomiting can be symptoms of something more serious, such as colon cancer.Gas and Bloating A pattern of gas and bloating may be an indication that a tumor is growing in the colon and occasionally causing a blockage. Even if the tumor isn't large enough to cause a bowel obstruction on its own, stool may periodically get hung up on the tumor while it's passing by, causing a temporary obstruction. While your bowel is blocked and air is trapped, you'll be bloated. When the blockage resolves itself, all that air will need somewhere to go and you'll be gassy.Lethargy Sometimes the presence of a tumor causes iron deficiency anemia, a condition that can cause you to feel extremely tired (lethargic). Tumors tend to bleed, which results in a loss of iron -- an element that transports oxygen to your cells. This symptom is characteristic of tumors in the beginning of the colon. Since it's pretty roomy there, tumors can get fairly big and bleed a lot before causing any other colon cancer symptoms. The blood usually dries before leaving the body, too, which also allows the bleeding to go unnoticed.
4 :
Well, any changes in bowel habits (diarrhoea, constipation or both) which lasts more than six weeks can be a symptom of colon cancer. BUT it's much more likely to be a symptom of something else. If it's diarrhoea, and it goes on for any length of time, see your doctor. Just because it's probably not cancer doesn't mean it doesn't need treatment.

Not true at all
2 :
idk, is colon cancer more common in young catholic children?
3 :
No.
4 :
a made-up statistic (made up by a homophobe, i would guess)
5 :
No But stupidity kills
6 :
No, that's just another fake "health statistic" spread by gay haters.
7 :
I've got many family members with colon cancer. It seems to be genetic. I don't think many 60-year-old grandparents are actively involved in anal sex.
8 :
No. Colon cancer is mostly genetic, but it can be caused by certain illnesses, like E. Coli.
9 :
What's anal six?
10 :
If you're trying to make a moral claim based on the outcome of an act, then I have to point out to you the effect of allowing a baby with Down Syndrome to come to full term. Morality is not black and white, as your god would have you believe. Life is complex. Leaning on God for one-size-fits-all answers is a weak copout, and it's dangerous to society. Get used to complexity and work with us.
11 :
Nope. And it's "sex," not "six." Sex is not a dirty word. Peace.
12 :
No- not colon cancer but certain anal cancers...that is what that Farrah facett died from- it's the one that is caused by the same virus that causes the cervical cancer. It is a fact. But everyone wants to sweep that fact under the rug.
13 :
no, my grandfather died from it '94 because he refused a rectal exam..........thought it was homosexual to have anyone touch him there. my father passed from it a year ago today at age 79 and i'm confident he never engaged. my sister has had polyps and has become at risk. not only did she marry as a virgin, she practices sex honorably. no whore behaviours. fellatio and anal sex are what prostitutes do, not wives. however, i myself do indulge and have had no signs whatsoever of colon cancer. maybe it's the other way around...........so, are you at risk?
14 :
Firstly, where did you get that information from?
