yes colon cancer is treatable

It's very unlikely you have colon cancer. These symptoms don't really fit it anyway. What you most likely have is an irritation of your colon caused by colitis, crohns disease, or something like that. You may also have celiac disease, you should ask to be screened for that. Bottom line though, you need to get someone to take you to the doctor and get this checked out before it does any more damage. Best of luck kiddo, e-mail me through my profile and let me know how it goes.
3 :
ohh my goshh! even if you don't you should go to the doctor,it might be but contact the doctor! i got this from the internet: Signs and symptoms of colon cancer include: â– A change in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool for more than a couple of weeks â– Rectal bleeding or blood in your stool â– Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain â– A feeling that your bowel doesn't empty completely â– Weakness or fatigue â– Unexplained weight loss Many people with colon cancer experience no symptoms in the early stages of the disease. When symptoms appear, they'll likely vary, depending on the cancer's size and location in your large intestine. When to see a doctor If you notice any symptoms of colon cancer, such as blood in your stool or a persistent change in bowel habits, make an appointment with your doctor. Talk to your doctor about when you should begin screening for colon cancer. Guidelines generally recommend colon cancer screenings begin at age 50. Your doctor may recommend more frequent or earlier screening if you have other risk factors, such as a family history of the disease.

Hi Taylor. The chances of you having colon cancer are slim to none sweetie. You probably have whatever it was you had when you were just a little girl. Of course, it could be something a simple as your diet. You need to let your parents know what is going on so they can make a doctor appointment for you. Good luck.
5 :
Honey, please tell your parents so they can take you to the Dr. ! You can't have things like this going on and not tell anyone. It could be anything besides cancer . So the longer you put it off the worse whatever it is will get! They have all kinds of treatments today for cancers and everything else. Stop worrying about it have tell Mom /Dad and get to the Dr ASAP. You know when ever you are scared, if you call on the Lord he is always there for you! I will say a prayer for you that this will be something rather simple and not bad. God bless you !

Over your lifetime you have a 5% risk. Right now close to zero. If you had on of the rare ones that runs in families you would have no doubt.

The best source for finding out this is cancer.gov, though webmd.com has the same statistics. It drops at each stage, though at stage 3 it's 60% (75-78%), and I believe it does drop quite a bit after that. There is always hope, though. Good luck!
2 :
THERES NO SUCH THING AS HOPE GOD..
3 :
Not too good but better than years before. Pray to God a lot, too.
4 :
The statistics point to 20-30% of people who have been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer to live 5 years. In stage 4 colon cancer the cancer has moved on to other parts of the body, such as the liver or lungs. It is this point when surgery is done (segmental resection or colostomy) the problems caused by blockage can be relieved. At stage 4, curing the cancer is nearly impossible unless the tumors that have spread are able to be removed as well as removal from resection of the colon. People may only survive for a few months after diagnosis, some up to 5 years. A small percentage of people live more than 5 years. In the end, it's individual. Edit: I hope your family member beats the odds and is with you for a long time.

Can dog colitis (inflammation of the colon) lead to colon cancer

Can dog colitis (inflammation of the colon) lead to colon cancer?
Just some extra info about the dog: She is a 9-year-old female, spayed, pure bred labrador. Allergic to majority of dog foods, so the vet put her on a bland human diet of chicken, rice, carrots, celery, etc. with some olive oil and salmon oil. We also give her vitamins (for dogs) daily. She has been on this diet for 4 years now and it has helped her food and environmental allergies alot!

Well I don't know if it causes it but dogs with colitis are at a higher risk for developing colon cancer.
2 :
well in people, About 5 percent of people with ulcerative colitis develop colon cancer. So I'm guessing it is close to that number in dogs. So it's a very low chance
3 :
the symptoms of Colitis are almost similar to the symptoms of colon Cancer in dogs . Colitis may be acute, episodic or chronic and the signs often last for two to three weeks. The type of predominant cells present in the inflamed colon is used to describe the specific disorders. Acute conditions normally do not present any signs of systemic illness but in chronic cases the dog may experience a significant weight loss. General symptoms of colon Cancer that are similar to those of Colitis include: * A combination of bright red colored blood in stool * Mucus in stool * Defecation with extra effort * Increased frequency of defecation, sometimes many time in a day * Occasional Vomiting even in healthy dogs. Sorry but I don't know if it can cause cancer, but it is a symptom of colon cancer.

I'm a sixteen year old girl, am I at risk for colon cancer

I'm a sixteen year old girl, am I at risk for colon cancer?
Last month we found out my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer. He is only 34 years old and he was diagnosed with stage 4, and he is the only member in our family to ever be diagnosed with colon cancer. Am I at a higher risk?

not really :)
2 :
Yes you are at a higher risk and should start getting colonoscopies when you are 24. EDIT: You are only at a higher risk when you have a first degree relative with colon cancer.
3 :
So sorry to hear about your dad..the Dr will want to follow you and your siblings as you get older..right now you are not @ risk, but every time you get a new Dr. make sure that is the 1st thing you tell them..so yes you are @ a higher risk than someone without colon cancer in their family..
4 :
My grandma was just diagnosed with stage one and everyone one on her side of the family me,my mom my brother her sister are at risk one of her sister has a non cancers bump in her colon! So yes you are at risk and you should talk to your doctor! And get a screening evey 5 year! I am 14 and I am worried that I could get it!
5 :
You should certainly start getting colonoscopies younger than most. That way, you will catch it if you do get it, so you can get treatment. Your dad, however, will probably be sick for a long time because stage four is the most progressed cancer stage. Since he is young and hopefully still strong without any other health problems, he should be able to live through it and beat it. I wish both of you the best.

How do doctors detect colon cancer

How do doctors detect colon cancer?
yeah but he hasn't been eating anything because nothing stays down so is there another way? My dad is having sergury tomorrow because part of his colon collapsed and they say it's because he had some sort of build up. Is the only way to detect colon cancer is by cutting in or do they have blood tests that would be able to tell you? I only ask because they say they don't know what the build up is....if it was cancer do you think they would be able to let us know before taking it out?

a fecal sample is usually used to screen for colon cancer.
2 :
It is very unusual for a colon to collapse. When a person has colon cancer the colon usually gets bigger. The colon is like a garden hose. Imagine a tumor growing inside the hose as there is little room for the water to pass the side before the tumor is backing up and making the hose expand. With a colon however, it is feces and gas building up and it is quite painful. Cancer cannot be detected on a blood test and if he needs surgery, he needs surgery cancer or not. Only the bad part of the colon is removed and the two good ends are attached to each other – like you do to a garden hose that has a tear in the middle of it. If it is cancer keeping him under while the doctor comes out to tell you is not really a necessary risk and if he is lucky the surgeon won’t be able to tell that it is cancer while in the OR as it is too small and localized. Best wishes to you both.

Foods/things to eat to protect you from colon cancer

Foods/things to eat to protect you from colon cancer?
A family member of mine just passed away from colon cancer - 3 year battle! ;-( Iam so scared to get any kind of cancer. Is there any natural foods/vitamins/food that can help to prevent colon cancer or anyother kinds of cancers!? Why don't they have a cure yet for cancer man?!?!

Eat PLENTY of fresh Fruits & Vegetables; cut back on the Fast Foods; & drink LOTS of water... -& you've got the BEST Recipe for NEVER getting Colon Cancer... :)
2 :
There isn't anything guaranteed you can do to prevent cancer, but eating healthy will help. Also, some docs advocate taking supplements. But be careful choosing supplements because there is a lot of crap out there (see consumerlab.com). I know a lot of people (cancer patients and non-cancer patients) that take CNCA supplements (www.CNCAhealth.com). I've recommended them (usually Immunomax) to many cancer patients because their supplements are designed by doctors at cancer hospitals. CNCA's products are pricey, but then you get what you pay for.
3 :
Lots of vegetables, fruits, organic if you can find them... raw is best if you can. Eliminate processed foods.. they are loaded with chemicals, pesticides, preservatives, empty nutrition starches. Limit meat as much as possible.. one 3 ounce serving per day is all the protein you need. Beans can be substituted for meat as they contain high quality proteins. As a previous poster mentioned drink plenty of water.. without chlorine if possible as that destroys the favorable flora in your intestines.
4 :
essiac....drink kombucha tea everyday and only eat live unprocessed foods everyday...chelation therapy...colon cleanse
5 :
I don't think science knows for sure if any specific diet will prevent cancer. We know there are some dangerous foods which are carcinogenic, so avoid those. The rest of the evidence recommending one diet or the other are based on epidemiological studies. ie. large scale studies/surveys of people on what they eat, and seeing what kinds of sicknesses they get. There's an explanation at http://www.cancerdoubts.com

Effectiveness of Xeloda and Avastin Combo As Primary Treatment for colon cancer that has spread to liver

Effectiveness of Xeloda and Avastin Combo As Primary Treatment for colon cancer that has spread to liver?
Xeloda tablets daily and Avastin 2xmonth intervenous. How effective is this as a primary treatment for colon cancer that has matastized to the liver. Cancer is inoperable and also harsher chem/radiation regimens are not possible due to poor health and severe renal problems. Cancer was operated on some time back so it is not present in the colon. Just the liver.
