Can severe constipation over time cause colon cancer

Can severe constipation over time cause colon cancer?
If so please explain how.

Cancer is linked to inflammation, and constipation causes inflammation. If you have this problem, it won't automatically cause cancer, but it will increase the risk.

Constipation can cause diverticulosis and eventual diverticulitis. No it does not cause cancer. Diverticulosis is from the muscle wall squeezing so hard on the constipated stool, little sacs of colon sqeeze through cracks in the muscle wall and eventually form sacs outside of the muscle wall... they can get inflammed and then it is called diverticulitis. Increase the amount of fiber in your diet. switch from white bread to whole wheat. Add metamucil or some other fiber supplement if you are concerned about constipation.

Constipation cannot cause cancer. It does however cause hemorrhoids which can rupture and cause bleeding and if that happens could cause severe infection. Please get to your doctor and change your diet to make sure your eatting plenty of fiber to get rid of the problem.
