My uncle was diagnosed with colon cancer and will begin chemo next week. his hands and feet are white, why

My uncle was diagnosed with colon cancer and will begin chemo next week. his hands and feet are white, why?
he has had surgery to remove the tumor about three weeks ago and sadly enough it has spread to his liver and apparently the cancer is very aggressive and is at a stage 4 which I know is extremely scary. He just now noticed his hands and feet starting to look white as if his blood count was extremely low. Just wanted to know what that meant. Thank you!

Your Oncologist is the best person to ask this question. I hope you would have tested his blood for Hemoglobin counts. The reason for paling (whiting) of hand and feet may be due to this and his anemic condition. Your doctor may infuse some blood to cope up the situation. Please consult. Also check up if Rectal bleeding is taking place. It may happen with out our knowledge due to this the blood counts may come down. Please check up and ask your doctor to suggest some Iron medication.-

First off I want to send my best wishes to you and your family. My family has a hereditary disease that leads to colon/stomach cancer and I myself was diagnosed at 17 years old (week before my 18th bday) for it. The whitening of his skin is due to anemia. It's trauma to your body when you undergo surgery and it takes time for the red blood cells to reproduce afterwards. Once they start giving him fluids and possible blood transfusion it'll allow his blood count to increase and the coloring will then disappear. My prayers are w/ you and your family. I'm sorry to hear this.

Can a teenager have colon cancer

Can a teenager have colon cancer?
can he or she can get colon cancer at a young age?

Yes it can happen to anyone at any age.
2 :
Yes. Anyone can get colon cancer at any age. It sad but true!
3 :
yeah anyone can.
4 :
There is a type of hereditary colon cancer . . but overall cancer is AGE SPECIFIC . . which means that teenagers get different types of cancers than older adults . . and colon cancer is a cancer that OLDER people get. There are tons of information and advertising about colon, lung, and breast cancer . . but what none of those advertisements tell you is that these diseases affect OLDER adults . .not young people. For reasons not entirely understood . . each age group biologically tends to get only certain types of cancer . . older adults seem to almost always get major organ related cancers like lung, colon, breast, pancreatic cancers . . while young people tend to get blood cancers, lymphatic cancers, bone and soft tissue sarcoma's . . more young people tend to get the small blue cell cancers often associated with the primitive cells of childhood. So older people get cancers because their cells have aged . . while young people get cancers from young primitive cells . . in general only . . there are always exceptions to every rule with cancer. So . . except for a hereditary type of colon cancer . . colon cancer is not a disease of the young. You can find out which cancers are more common to teenagers at the American Society of Clinical Oncology website which explains the AGE SPECIFIC types of cancers for various age groups: ASCO: Cancer in Teens http://www.cancer.net/patient/Coping/Age-Specific+Information/Cancer+in+Teens Common Cancer Types that affect Teenagers: Central Nervous System, Childhood Cancer Childhood Cancer (Overview) Ewing's Sarcoma, Childhood Cancer Germ Cell Tumors, Childhood Cancer Lymphoma, Non-Hodgkin, Childhood Cancer Leukemia, Acute Lymphoblastic (ALL), Childhood Cancer Leukemia, Acute Myeloid (AML), Childhood Cancer Melanoma Ovarian Cancer Osteosarcoma, Childhood Cancer Sarcoma Testicular Cancer

Is a teenager more likely to get colon cancer or prostate cancer

Is a teenager more likely to get colon cancer or prostate cancer?
I know these cancers are mostly an old man's disease, lets say some kid gets unlucky...which of these two cancers would happen most likely?

neither. teenagers are too young to get any kind of cancer. your only either born with it or you get it later in life. dont worry.
2 :
Wrong wrong wrong shady. you are not born with it. We fight off cancers every day. Our immune system is a marvelous thing. However sometimes things happen and a cancer develops. If we knew why, we could cure it. Now as for the question, since both usually show up later in life, I would say its a 50/50.
3 :
No one is ever too young to get colon cancer, although 90% of cases are in adults over the age of 50. Prostate cancer is rarely seen in men under the age of 45, but testicular cancer is the most common cancer in American males between the ages of 14 and 34. I currently know a 36 year old male in stage 4 colon cancer. Also, (a friend's husband) a 31 year old male who was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer.
4 :
probably neither

What kind of excercise is available for a person diagnosed with colon cancer

What kind of excercise is available for a person diagnosed with colon cancer?

Assuming that a person is not still recovering from abdominal surgery, there are no limits. Walking is probably the best exercise - not too demanding but sufficient to maintain cardiovascular health and stimulate peristalsis. However, a person can do whatever they are capable of doing whether its running a marathon or sitting in a wheel chair and lifting cans of food.

I have damage in the lower intestines/colon from radiation cancer treatment 5 years ago. Any help

I have damage in the lower intestines/colon from radiation cancer treatment 5 years ago. Any help?
I would appreciate any help. Hoping for others who have had the same problem tell me what helped them or anyone with any ideas. Alternative treatments would be greatly appreciated but would consider others. Thanks. The details are that I need to have bowel movements several times a day and may not have good digestion (therefore, the supplements I take may not be working as well as they should be.). Which also causes raw tissue from excessive wiping. Sorry if this is too explicit. I have radiation colitis.

I'm not sure what kind of damage you're talking about, but you may have heard of Dr. F. Question about colon cancer and bloating

Question about colon cancer and bloating?
if you had colon cancer and were bloated, you wouldn't be bloated just after meals, you'd be bloated all the time ( including in the morning when you first wake up) right? I'm worried I have it and persistent bloating is my most common symptom. I get it every day. thank you

1 :
Persistent bloating is usually caused by intestinal gas or constipation. It is a common symptom of intestinal parasites, Celiac disease, or irritable bowel syndrome. It is an uncommon symptom of colon cancer regardless of the circumstances, and it would not likely be the only symptom if you had cancer. If bloating is pretty much the only symptom, Celiac disease is the most likely cause. To test out the possibility of Celiac disease, you can try eliminating gluten from your diet to see if there is any improvement. It usually takes at least 2 weeks after eliminating gluten for the symptoms to go away.
2 :
Bloating isn't a sign of colorectal cancer. Generally this type of cancer presents with non-specific symptoms like weight loss, loss of appetite and malaise. However left-side colon cancer may cause constipation or other changes in bowel habits. Everyone over fifty should talk to their doctor regularly about screening for colorectal cancer. If your symptoms are very troubling to you, you should talk to your doctor too because he may be able to help. But bloating alone is not a sign of cancer.
