My dad has colon cancer

My dad has colon cancer?
my dad was diagnosed in august of 2004 at the age of 48 with colon cancer. it was considered terminal at the time, he is still living today. the cancer has spead to both of his lungs, his stomach, and either his kidney or liver (i forget). last summer he was in the hospital for 3 months (whole summer) getting fluids (that were red) drained from his lungs. doctors said that the large lung was clamping the small lung and making it hard for him to breathe. so he was put on oxygen..and getting this liquid drained from his lungs. after 3 months in the hospital not moving from the bed, he had a long road of recovery, but he did recover. then about 4 weeks ago he was adimtted into the hospital again, exact same thing as last summer, but they caught it quick enough and he was released last week. he's on oxygen, and just really slow with everything. when do you think the cancer will take his life? they say they don't know how to keep his lungs open, i just want some advice on what you think

There's no way to tell. One thing that the medical community forget to take into account when diagnosing, is that it is the person's will to live that will extend or shorten their life. Help him develop a will to live and he will live longer. It is a proven fact among cancer patients.
2 :
Caroline, My suggestion is for you to enjoy this time with your dad as much as you can as you never know when he will go....it sounds as tho he has had a ruff road of it and needs your love and attention as much as possible.. just be there for him and for you as one day you will look back on this time and want to have some wonderful memories. Good luck and be strong for him and you...HUGS
3 :
like the other girl said try spending as much time with him. it might help him forget about the pain even for a little while.
4 :
Hi, I am sorry to hear about your dads health. This is very sad and hard on the family. Your dad is a real trooper and a hard fighter. If his lungs are filling up with fluids and they don't think they can't keep his lungs open he has a very short time left. If i were you i would make sure that you are at home specially at night and you and the family be there when it's is time to pass. I just hate to hear anyone who has any kind of cancer. Cancer is what took my moms life, she was so much in pain it was a blessing when God came for her. Very sorry about your dad. If you would like to talk with someone you can email me on this site and i will answer back. God Bless.. poppy1

Darling, my wife was diagnosed with colon cancer while undergoing double bipass surgery a few years ago. We fought cancer in 1988 when we fought cervical cancer and WON! Now we are fighting it again, but in a different place. We don't think about when her life will end, but having a wonderful time while she is still here. Our Grand Kids ,Dee Dee(4) and Jackson (5)fill our lives with wonderful memories. My wife is tough!!!! We've even replaced both her knees and she keeps on plugging and she just hit 50. Your Dad knows that we all will go sometime, he just knows his time may be a little sooner. Your job is to be there for him and let him know you love him and That will be all he needs.
6 :
Its really hard to answer the question of when.My dad had colon cancer and they told us we might have a few months with him. He lived for 2 years, it depends on the will to live and acceptance by the person and their family. Just enjoy everyday with your Dad and let him know how much you love him.

Can it be Colon Cancer

Can it be Colon Cancer ??
I'm 29 yrs. old. I'm having rectal bleeding for last 2 yrs. i guess. The blood is deep red. The amount has increased recently. I sometimes have constipation, not always. Most of the time, I have normal bowel movement, but the blood is always there, everyday, every time - whenever I go to toilet. Can it be colon cancer or something very negligible ? God Bless U All.

It could be.The only way to find out is to see a medical professional. They probably will examine you and/ or have you take specific tests. If your experiencing pain with this, you'll need to describe it so be prepared to do the "chart from 1 to 10" thing. I hope you have medical insurance. Either way, you do have a problem that needs professional attention. Also, loosing a lot of blood over a long period of time may be making you tire easily. Wouldn't you feel better knowing what is happening and getting something to help?
2 :
it could be , although it has been going on for 2 years and you would probably be experiencing some other symptoms like pencil thin stools . but go get checked out .
3 :
My mother died from colon cancer, but I do not think you have it, as you have been suffering from this for quite a long time. My mothers first symtoms was blood in her stools, and then very bad abdominal pain and weight loss. She went to the doctors pretty soon her symptoms started. My grandmother suffers from the same symptoms as you have and she has been lke this for years, doctors cannot find anything serious, shes 86 and still going strong. GOODLUCK!
4 :
Well let me tell you about my rectal bleeding. Fun topic, huh? I have been having it for over 2 years, and the final conclusion are fissures, which a rips from being constipated. I have also been dealing with breast cancer, so every time I have had a surgery and get a narcotic, I am guaranteed to bleed. Most of the time it is painful, but there are some times when it is not. Have you talked to a doctor about it? While I think it may be fissures, it's good to get things checked out anyway. Good luck!
5 :
It may or may not serious. Safer to see a physician. In the Beginning God created heavens and earth. God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy. God gives you water to drink and food to eat. God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live. God loves you, and you are precious to Him. Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation. Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting. We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus. Life therefore has fantastic and glorious future! (Please must visit: www.spiritlessons.com)

Colon cancer is pretty serious. His wife may be dying. It's hard to provide emotional and physical support if you're on the road all the time like pro wrestlers are, so, yes, he's doing the right thing. It might not be good for his career, though.

Colon cancer

Colon cancer? uhhhhhh?
Okay so i know this is totallyyy nasty. Okay well i'm 14. And yeahh i just did number 2.... And when i wiped i noticed little circles of blood. i'm on my period, but it wasn't like a line of blood. I checked one more time and put the paper right on my butt hole.....and there was like little dots of blood... it's happened before a long time ago too. Could that be colon cancer? or if it isn't then why was i bleeding a little in that area?

Just because your butt has blood in it does not mean you have cancer. Was there blood in your stool. If so I'd get that checked by a doctor...NOW!!
2 :
If you are worried tell your mom, but it isn’t cancer. You need to change your diet.

Am I worrying too much about colon cancer

Am I worrying too much about colon cancer?
Am I worrying too much about colon cancer? Over the past 4 months, I've had a range of different bowel movements. Some have been fat and roundish; others have been thin and flat. Would I be seeing that range if you had colon cancer. So is it a problem if I went from not being able to #### for a day, to have something like but not really direria? I normally #### at once a day... Abdominal distension: Nope Abdominal pain: Nope Unexplained, persistent nausea or vomiting: Nope Unexplained weight loss: Nope Change in frequency or character of stool (bowel movements): nope Small-caliber (narrow) or ribbon-like stools: I dont' think so? Sensation of incomplete evacuation after a bowel movement: Nope Rectal pain: Nope Age. About 90 percent of people diagnosed with colon cancer are older than 50: I'm 20. A personal history of colorectal cancer or polyps: Not that I know of. Inflammatory intestinal conditions: Nope Inherited disorders that affect the colon: I might have hemmorides, thouh it usually doesn't cause a problem for me. Basiclly it's not active most of the time. Family history of colon cancer and colon polyps: Only my grandma, nobody else even polyps. My parents who are over 50 both got colonoscapes, neither one of them had any polyps. Diet. Colon cancer and rectal cancer may be associated with a diet low in fiber and high in fat and calories: Probably A sedentary lifestyle: Yeah, but do try to get at least a little bit of exercise each day. Diabetes: Nope Obesity: I'm only 135 pounds Smoking. I don't smoke Alcohol: I don't drink Growth hormone disorder: I don't think so. Radiation therapy for cancer: I've never had cancer or anyone in my family except for my granda who was a smoker. Is it just my OCD doing this to me?

It sounds like anxiety playing tricks on your mind.. I'd say you're completely fine. The weird bowel movements (though tbh, to me they don't sound weird at all!) could be caused by nervousness, food allergy, or even simply what you've eaten that day. If you're still concerned, go to a real doctor :)
2 :
Absolutely NOT colon cancer. You have none of the prerequisites for it and you are way too young. However, there are many conditions of the gastrointestinal tract that you cannot diagnose on Y!A, so if you're truly concerned, I suggest you see a GI Specialist who will help you far better than any of us can without seeing you and running tests.
3 :
Try colon cleanse. It cleanses and decongests the intestines, relieves bloating and water retention. It supports colon health and health of vital organs. It takes a couple of days to kick in,but its smooth sailing after it does. Works great for me ! You'll have alot more energy too. There's a few trail on the website where I bought mine.

Stage III colon cancer

Stage III colon cancer?
I have a friend who was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer a few months ago. From what I was told, she started out on chemo and it stopped working so they put her on radiation. She told me a couple of weeks ago that it spread to her lymph nodes behind the ear and her chin and they were putting her on chemo. Things don't seem to be adding up when I do my research and she doesn't want to seem to talk about it. Are there any professionals out there or someone who has been thru this who can shed some light? I thought stage III meant that it had ALREADY spread to the lymph nodes and at this stage, surgery should be done along with chemo treatments afterwards. Please advise and thank you. Very concerned friend Thanks everyone. You're right, she doesnt like to talk about things. Everytime I try, she says "I'll be ok". I dont know anything about this disease and trying to educate myself on it for her sake. She always says things will be fine and that made me feel she's getting better. I guess there's a very high chance that she really wont recover and she's covering that up.

I hate to tell you but your friend is likely frightened of death- a likely course of events. Often people in this position shut down communication because it is very hard to face. My brother died of cancer 3 years ago and we did everything we could to find alternative health clinics with great track records that could help him but the fear of death and the stages of denial really overwhelmed him and his wife. They shut down communication and he died 10 months after his initial diagnosis. Very very sad. He was only 52 and never got to walk his little girls down the isle.
2 :
Look your friend is dying and the doctors are just going thru the motions. They are giving your friend options instead of just sending her home to die. They basically have to exhaust every avenue before they do that. Once it spreads to the lymph nodes there is not much more they can do. No amount of srugery is gonna help in stage 3. She is nearing the end of her life. Just be there as a friend. Listen to her. She will be going thru all kinds of emotions.
3 :
Many times surgery is not an option, and they often alternate with chemo and radiation, except in the brain. Colon cancer is very, very serious and just be supportive of your friend. I am sure that there are things that she can't say, not because she cant talk to you, but because it hurts her to even think about it. I hope your friend beats this, good luck.
4 :
Firstly why the doctors stopped the initial Chemotherapy treatment cycles. They should not have stopped. No the position seem to be worrying. Anyway I suggest you not to loose heart and have the Surgery and other treatments. Apart from having Faith in God please have full faith on your Oncologist who is treating your friend and be with her and give all courage. From what you have stated we can not assess or give any suggestion and it is only your Oncologist can do whatever he can. You should not at any rate stop treatments and you have to continue in full, putting up all side effects, as CANCER IS STILL AN ENIGMA-

If u have 8 out of 9 symptoms of colon cancer does that mean u ahve it

If u have 8 out of 9 symptoms of colon cancer does that mean u ahve it?

Cancer - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You could have all 9 and still not have it. But its time that you started to eat a regular raw type diet of fruits and vegatables. avoid sugar drink more water and eat more nuts avoid soda and you can get all the symptoms down to zero.
2 :
i'm going to go with a yes, Alex.... whoever is showing symptoms needs to get checked. don't guess with cancer...
3 :
No, no symptom is specific of colon cancer. Only colonoscopy with biopsy can confirm cancer.
4 :
I like what the 1st answer said...you can have evry symptom in the book of colon cancer and still not have it...colon cancer symptoms are actualyl common things evrybody gets now and then...constipation, gas, bloody stools (can be caused from straining when constipated) stomach pains due to constipation or gas, diahhreah which could be caused by eating soemthing bad or soemthing your body doesnt agree with, etc. Ive had all symptoms b4 and I'm fine. To alleviate these awful symptoms that can make you think you have colon cancer, drink more water, eat more fruit and foods with fiber like cereal, and exercise more. Cut down on fatty and greasy foods like fries and chili and red meat. also this will prevent colon cancer. and calcium supplements prevent colon cancer.
5 :
It doesn' t mean you have it but, it doesn't mean you don't have it either. In addition many of the symptoms can be symoptoms of other problems. Go to the Doctor and tell them your symptoms, do the tests and see what it actually is.
6 :
No. The most important 'symptom' happens to be your age . . cancer is often age specific, so colon cancer and cancer of the organs generally happen in older people. Colon cancer can occur in younger people, but it is rare . . so if you are having 8 out of 9 symptoms and you are a teen or young adult . .it is probably something else. However no one here knows what you are experiencing, so it is always best to go to a doctor and have it checked out. If it makes you feel any better . . colon cancer rarely has symptoms . . that is why most older adults have a colonoscopy to check for nodules . . you can't feel them until they are advanced. Look at the following illustration that demonstrates how a nodule will start out tiny and grow . . it is only when the disease becomes large that anyone would notice symptoms. http://content.revolutionhealth.com/contentimages/cdr0000415501.jpg

About colon cancer, please help

About colon cancer, please help!?
ok how long does it take to get from stage 1 to stage 2 in colon cancer(and stage 2 to 3 and so on. There are 4 stages)? My father has stage 1 colon cancer and im wondering how long it takes to move along stages. And from what I have found if my father doesnt get the surgery then he has less than 90% chance of living for 5 more years? Is this true? What are the survival rates? It hasnt spread to other parts of the body yet, that we know of. He was diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer about 2-3 months ago. your help is appreciated. explaination of stages: http://ibdcrohns.about.com/cs/colorecalcancer/a/crcancerstages.htm picture of stages: http://www.meb.uni-bonn.de/cancer.gov/Media/CDR0000415501.jpg and the table of survival rates i found: http://www.alternative-cancer-treatments.com/colon-cancer-prognosis.htm are these accurate?

I don't think anyone can tell you this. Talk with the doctor.
2 :
less than 90%? that is not right, stage 1 is very curable especially since he already been treated for, I know people with stage 3 who are surviving past 5 years, colon cancer is not deadly as some other cancers are, note one point, CC does not kill people, yes, that is true, problem starts when it passes thru lymph node(stage 3 to stage 4) to other organs, specifically lung/liver/brain. and those are very old stats, newer drugs are very effective

After you have cancer in the colon, how long before it gets through the colon and into other places

After you have cancer in the colon, how long before it gets through the colon and into other places?
What I mean is,is it months or years, any estimates?
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

Unfortunatly it could take weeks. Depends on how aggressive the cancer is.If it's a slow growing cancer it could take a few months maybe a year for it to spread.
2 :
Factors of metastases include (but are not limited to) age, sex, hormones, location of the cancer, genetics and overall health. Only a physician with knowledge of all factors could give an educated guess as to the time it will take a certain cancer to spread.

Colon Cancer Stage IIIC/Double Lung Transplant

Colon Cancer Stage IIIC/Double Lung Transplant?
Hi, My mom was has Cystic Fibrosis, and received a double lung transplant in 2007. She started complaining about weird symptoms starting back in April of 2009 and we called multiple doctors, and talked to her transplant team. All year she had fevers of 102-103.7, her bowel movements changed to constant diarrhea, and had a strong scent of rust which we reported to doctors over and over again. Her transplant coordinator actually made a response of " Oh that's weird." && never ordered any blood work or any tests to be done. Finally about two months ago we were sick and tired of her suffering so we raced her down to the ER and demanded tests to be done. They found a large mass, two inches, through a CTscan in her colon. They performed a colonoscopy, discovered it was cancer and proceeded with surgery and removed two feet of her colon. We finally got her results back and they said its stage 3c colon cancer and we're seeing an oncologist this week. She is EXTREMELY immune supressed from her meds from the transplant and I would like to know what the average survival rates are for someone like her. What I would also like to know is why in the world wasnt this caught EARLIER. I've heard that colon cancer actually takes a long time to form. we reported these symptoms how long ago and they laughed them off. I personally think its medical malpractice. But the main thing is, what are the survival rates for someone in her position. CF, Double Lung Transplant and Colon Cancer .. honestly I'm extremely worried, her immune system could not handle any time of chemo .. i dont know what to do.

as you already know, not even doctors are always good at what they do. a doctor could tell your mom she has a year to live, and she goes on for 5. the doctors told my grandfather he had 3 weeks, he's going on 2 1/2 years. there really is no telling but when the time is near you'll know it. one thing i can guarantee is that the harder she fights for her life and the more support she has from her family, the longer she will live

Colon Cancer Chances. best answer

Colon Cancer Chances. best answer?
So my Grandma from one side and Grandpa from the other side has had colon cancer. So I'll go ahead and say my chances are pretty good. I'm in my upper teens. What can I start doing now to protect my colon and so on.
Cancer - 2 Answers

Your grandparents having colon cancer does not increase your risk for it, so your risk is the same as everyone else - 5% over your lifetime. A first degree relative with colon cancer raises the risk to 10%. You cannot protect your colon .The only risk factors you have control over that you can avoid is a diet high in fat and low in fiber, smoking, asbestos exposure and anal sex. You can also start screening in 20-30 years when you are supposed to.
2 :
Watch your diet, lay off the junk, etc. you can tell that you get it when you have stomach pains & when you poop starts thinning out.

Everything changes when your pregnant. Blood in the stool could be serious, please see your doctor.
2 :
you are pregnant-ask the doctor. we are not doctors. that is an extreme diagnosis. horribly extreme.
3 :
If your doctor feels its important he will send you to a gastrologist who can perform a colonoscopy it might be different because you are pregnant
4 :
You could not have a exray becasue it could harm the baby but they might be able to do a colonoscopy I am nit sure but I would ask your OB and see what they say. Everthing changes when you are pregnant and it may be nothing. 18 would be very young to have colon cancer.
5 :
CONTACT UR DOCTOR IMMEDIATLY
6 :
I not really sure, my mom has colon cancer, but her only symptoms was she could feel the tumor by putting her hand on her side. So I'm not sure of the symptoms. If u have any one in the family that has had colon cancer before, u might have it. But most likely it has something to do with being pregnant. Either way get it checked out. And yeah I think that a xray can or a cat scan or something like that can tell if it's colon cancer. I hope that whatever is wrong is not colon cancer or anything anything really, I don't know what it's like, but I know it's bad, so I hope that u and your baby will alright. I wish u the best.

You ARE colon cancer.
4 :
I suggest you go see a doctor, don't rely on the people on Yahoo answers. No seriously get your phone and make an appointment, if your suspicious about something you should get it checked out. Cancer strikes at any age. I heard a guy at 17 got prostate cancer.
5 :
go to the doctor. self diagnosis and submitting your physical history for amateur opinions from unqualified people is not wise.
6 :
I know of a guy who died of colon cancer at 35, he was a non-smoker who had no family history either. Go to the doctor.

This probably isn't something to be asking random non-doctors. (IE, we won't know - ask a real doctor) My totally unprofessional opinion is that cancer doesn't appear "within a few days". But ignore me - I'm some random person. If you happen to be in Ontario, Canada, google "telehealth Ontario" for a phone number to call about questions. If not - dunno. Real doctor I guess.

What is the survival rate after diagnosed w/colon cancer stage 4

What is the survival rate after diagnosed w/colon cancer stage 4?

Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The 5 year survival rate is 5%
2 :
Survival is relative, none of us get out of this life alive. The question is how long might colo-rectal cancer remain in remission and that is a question for your oncologist only they know the specifics of your particular case. Any opinion here would be uneducated and probably just negative feedback.

3 :
yes it is the same thing
4 :
Yes. To be more explicit, the oncologist may tell you if it is in the small intestine, or the large intestine.
5 :
no there are small intestine & large bowel (colon, seqmoid and rectum) if its in small and localized and there are no metastasis thats good and not involved the large bowel and if in large bowel and not involved in small so its depend on the sings and symptoms of the case . dont forget no diagnosis without investigation(ct scan) (x-ray) (barium)etc.
6 :
large intestine - yes. I am an oncologist
7 :
no your bowels and colon are 2 different things unless it has spread to both of them

Could this be Colon Cancer

Could this be Colon Cancer?
So usually I'm able to crap every day, but lately like the last 5 days it's been switching from either not being able to crap that and having ribbon like crap. I don't have any other symptoms of colon cancer. I'm only 21, and have no family history of colon cancer other than a grandma had it, but it was caused by smoking for her. Okay, now I'm finding light red blood on the toilet paper... Is it just my ocd screwing with me?
Other - Health - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It is probably your ocd screwing with you. changes in bowels can be caused by diet, stress, drugs, or some kind of germ. The blood on the toilet paper is probably from a scratch on or near your anus, or a hemorrhoid.
2 :
if you drink water and eat a fiber on a daily basis, you tend to be more regular. Perhaps your diet has fluxuated recently. I wouldn't jump to the colon cancer conclusion. Sometimes your poo can be more acidic on some days than others, causing pain, or more wipes than normal. Chaffing.
3 :
Not likely at your age. I would not worry about it if the problem has only been for the past week. The blood may be from a fissure from straining. Don't strain. If you can't poop, get off the pot, go for a walk, drink plenty of water and make sure you have some fiber in your diet. Now if you have blood in you stool, or an irritable bowel for a long period of time, you definitely need to see your doctor.

Could this be colon cancer

Could this be colon cancer?
Could this be colon cancer? I just took a crap, and my crap kinda on the flat side. Not really like ribbon like crap, but flatter than it should be. I also found random areas with light red. I'm only 20 years, and I don't have any other symtoms of colon cancer.
Men's Health - 3 Answers

possible it could be or you been straining your self go see your doctor if it concerns you too much
2 :
At 20, highly unlikely.
3 :
It does not sound like colon cancer. Usually, colon cancer has no symptoms at all until it gets into the latter stages. Then you would notice a considerable weight loss, constipation and severe abdominal pain. I suggest you eat more fiber and pay attention to your diet. The light red may be blood, but that color blood usually means you're bleeding closer to the rectum. In that case, it may be a minor case of hemorrhoids. If this condition continues, you'll need to see a doctor to determine if it's something more. Parasites or diverticulitis may be something to look into.

Cancer at your age is very unlikely. It's most likely that your mind is causing problems with your insides. The blood is probably slight piles due to the other issues. But I am not a doctor and YOU MUST SEE ONE. Don't take any chances.
2 :
What you have is called constipation. Smoking does not cause colon cancer.

If you're scared, talk to your doctor. Only they can confirm if there is something seriously wrong with you and the sooner something like that is found the more treatable it is. Your doctor will probably be able to tell you about support groups as well so you can talk to other people with the same problems.

.we must take all precautions, and if we are already going through it, it’s important to know and These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size. use these important facts: Every person has cancer cells in the body Pregnancy test kit 1. AMAS blood test Requesting an Anti-Malignan Antibody (AMAS), which is "looking" for an antibody, a protein the body produces against foreign matter, in this case cancer cells. It is a new test and if run twice, the false positives and false negatives drops to under 1%. It can mean life or death! If you find you have cancer, the odds are that there is a 99% chance of a cure Testing for AMAS can pretty much let you come to the conclusion that cancer is hiding somewhere in your body, should the test results come back positive. This will allow you to start treatment before the cancer has a chance to spread. Whether it is breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer or some other form of a common cancer, AMAS should be a part of your personal checkup and should be requested at your doctor's visit.3 Originally, the pregnancy test was used as a cancer test. Cancer patients, either men or women in menopause, were "pregnant" when they took this test A quantitative test was developed which measures HCG. A reading of 50 and below showed no malignancy and 50 and above was more likely to show malignancy. Obviously the quantitative test could be used to screen for cancer. According to these findings, any man, or any woman who has since ceased having a menstrual period, could take a pregnancy test and if it registered positive may indeed have a lurking cancer. For those individuals who are not inclined to have regular checkups, this would be an invaluable means to find out if there was a malignancy in the body. If the pregnancy test results in a positive reading, than the blood test, AMAS, would be helpful in reaching a final medical conclusion. Done twice, the AMAS test is undeniably reliable and the amount of money saved, sparing the patient test after test, would be enormous.

If a faulty gene associated with colon cancer is in your family, then you should begin colonscopies approximately ten years prior to your parent's diagnosis. Even with this defective gene, colon cancer at sixteen is still extremely rare. The cause is more likely to be colonic or bowel floor dysfunction. Contact your doctor.

At your age it's most likely hemorrhoids. Try eating a lot more fiber. This means fruit, veggies, bran cereals, nuts, etc. If the blood gets heavy or you have a lot of pain, then go see a doctor. It's probably nothing more serious then your diet, but if it gets too weird, see a doc.

Could i have colon cancer

Could i have colon cancer? :(?
i'm 19 and have no history of colon cancer in my family, although my father does have ulcerative colitis which is now under control. for the past two weeks i've noticed streaks of blood on my stools sometimes, and what worries me is that my stools are sometimes thinner than usual... like they've been squeezed through an oval cookie cutter instead of a circular one. i've also been passing mucus before having a bowel movement. could i have colon cancer?
Cancer - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Blood streaks when passing a bowel movement are most commonly caused by a tiny tear in the lining from the hard stool or hemorrhoids. Diet changes and increased daily water can take care of both of these. You can go to WebMd and type in hemorrhoids and read up on this condition and it's treatment.
2 :
Probably not, BUT you need to see a doctor for some tests. If the blood is bright red, it is usually indicative of something like hemmorhoids. You may not be eating enough fiber which can cause thinner stools. Fiber bulks up your stool and softens it, if you drink plenty of water. Please see a doctor for some tests.
3 :
With your family Hx, I would ask the doctor to check you for UC.
4 :
I am not a dr, but I would have to guess you do not have colon cancer, I had some of the same things going on with myself and the thing that worked for me was a body/colon cleanse. Not only did it help with bowel movements, I regained my energy level, my skin never looked better, I just felt wonderful after using it. You can buy a cleanse on the net or at a local health food store. I used Dual Action got it on the net. Its not cheap but I use it every 6 months now, it works for me. Hope this helps ya!

Question about colon cancer

Question about colon cancer...?
Okay, my father had genetic colon cancer, and had two tumors, but last year he got his entire colon removed, and they said they caught it really early. He just finished chemo, but he has a pet scan tomorrow and I'm really nervous about it. Do you think he has a better chance of not getting it anywhere else? He has stage 3. And like I said, they caught it early and his entire colon is gone so the cancer is gone. Does he have a better chance of it NOT coming back?
Cancer - 1 Answers

1 :
What type of genetic colon cancer? (there are mainly two types - Lynch Syndrome and Familial adenomatous poliposis). Both syndromes are mainly related to colon cancer, but due to the genetic origin of the disease, tumours can occur at other sites. However, the main site is the colon, and as he had it removed, no tumor will form there. Now, if he has genetic colon cancer, it means it's hereditary and you have a 50% probability of getting it. You should get tested. Feel free to e-mail if you have more questions.

Anything new in the U.S or elsewhere for cancer that started in the colon; moving to lungs then else where

Anything new in the U.S or elsewhere for cancer that started in the colon; moving to lungs then else where???
A very good friend of mine was diagnoised with colon cancer, it went into remiss, then showed up as lung cancer, this past May, it moved to the vagina and tho she told doctors she needed to see them; they put her off and now it has a good foot hold. She was supposed to get help from a large local hospital, but because it moved to a new place they will not see her now. Anyone know of any help for her? She has a wonderfull husband and sons. I am burning a trail to God with prayers for her as well as her family. I am not sure if her husband will survive long without her; and her sons as well. They are such a loving family and my heart aches for all of them. Please if anyone has any information that may help her please let us know. People who are this loving shouldn't have to be pulled apart like this.

That is not only rude, it's completely uncalled for and heartless. I hope that somehow you all will be able to get your friend the help she needs and that she somehow beats the odds. Bless you all.

i don't necessarily believe in the system of medicine practiced in this country(U.S.) i don't feel as though people's hearts are in it. I feel for you and your friend. the good are always called upon early by the Good Lord. i lost my mother to Cancer 10 years ago , but i now have the great memory of having her in my childhood. i was also given a good heart and caring personality that i now have...so in response to your question if this scenario were to ever happen to me,i would seek help from someone who practice Western medicine ...ex. chinese or any Asians. Maybe look them up online or even ask someone who works at a Chinese restaurant. i have found these people to be very polite and helpful. i wish you the best of luck and to your friend. my condolences are with you

more than likely, its not colon cancer. BUT its never normal to bleed especially if you havent just had a large bowel movement. i'd def go to the doctor. tell him your concerned about colon cancer that way they will be sure not to throw that possibility to the curve since your so young, they might not want to bother testing you for it.

ASK YOUR DOCTOR!!!
2 :
you don't have cancer i am sure but heck a check would help relive your mind.
3 :
Holy crap, you're asking for a life-or-death diagnosis over the internet?? To be answered by teenagers and insomniacs?? Colon cancer.. maybe. Psychological issues, definitely. If you don't have insurance, any local physician can direct you to a low-cost clinic. Colon cancer is a killer, my great-uncle is dying from it right now. Get yourself checked.
4 :
You seem to have a hardcore case of hypochondria. You're not a doc, don't be googling that shit or you'll think you have "violent pregnancy leopracy". See your doc, they can give you a colonoscopy but you'll the youngest guy there by 30 years.
5 :
ask a man that's in the medical region
6 :
this is hard to tell. My father had colon cancer, and he had a severe amount of blood in his stool daily and was constipated constantly. so, he went to the doctors. No one on a forum could tell you wether or not you have colon cancer, and even if you're experiencing colon cancer symptoms it could be something completly different, same with if you're experiencing no symptoms at all you could still have colon cancer. The only way to tell is to go to a doctor, and have them check you out. if you have no insurance, find a free clinic. Trust me, colon cancer is nothing you want to mess with. Its highly probably you will die if you're cancer is progressed, so getting an annual colon check is completely necessary. my father is very lucky he is alive. Please take care of yourself. It may not be pleasant, but it is your life.
7 :
Probably not but go and see your doctor --- if it IS colon cancer and you leave it too late you will be a gonner
8 :
you need to go to the Doctor and have them perform the proper test. In general, I will say that it is way too easy to come up with your own diagnosis via the internet. You will drive yourself crazy .. I did .. Wait and let the doctor diagnosis you.
