Which of these is a carcinogen that may promote colon cancer; fat, estrogen, testosterone a virus or UV light?

I am making an educated guess here: fat or estrogen.
2 :
Fat is the answer! Here's why (Process of elimination) estrogen = female hormone -- but not every female has colon cancer testosterone = male hormone -- not all males have colon cancer as a result virus -- DNA/RNA feed into cells --> sick with disease (such as HIV, cold, etc) UV light - only affects epidermis of skin
3 :
I'd guess a virus. Excess fat in your diet *can* increase your risk of colon cancer - but that is believed to be because it induces constipation, which means that any other carcinogens in your diet stay in your colon longer, and have more of a chance to damage your cells. Oestrogen and testosterone are steroid hormones that are naturally made by your body. Again, they *may* have some cancer-promoting action, but this is via "standard" cell-signalling causes (like by inducing cell division), and not by actual mutagenic action. UV light is a mutagen and a carcinogen - but it is not normally found up your butt ;-) Viruses: there are viruses called oncoviruses, which can cause cancer when they invade your cells (papillomavirus is an example that causes warts and, sometimes, skin cancer). The presence of such viruses in your intestine could potentially cause colon cancer.

no, but if you ingest OLIVE OIL it may make you misspell a lot of crap. Maybe even use incorrect grammar. I think I'd worry about that more.
2 :
i don't think that it does anything.

Is colon cancer heriditary

Is colon cancer heriditary?
my mother died of colon cancer age 51
Cancer - 4 Answers

1 :
There is a hereditary risk factor in colon cancer, especially in cases of close relatives having it before age 55. This is a statistic from wikipedia, perhpaps not totally accurate, but I did study colorectal cancer at med school last year and there is a genetic factor involved. You may want to see your doctor for a check - it will most likely be a colonoscopy they perform. Don't take on fully the advice of yahoo answers- the only truly helpful person to see is a doctor. I hope everything goes well for you, and that I could be of some help. You might want to check out the wikipedia page on colon cancer for some info, but i would say you should definitely see a doctor.
2 :
Sorry you lost your mother to cancer. Like other cancers, colon cancer is rarely hereditary; fewer than 5% of cases of colon cancer are due to a high-risk inherited gene defect. Where it is hereditary there is usually a strong family history of colon cancer - several relatives diagnosed with it, especially if they are from different generations of the family, or one or more relatives diagnosed at a young age. There are two rare inherited conditions that increase colon cancer risk too. This link from Cancer Research UK explains http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=3748#famhist
3 :
It can be, or someone who has no close relatives with it can get it. You have to be careful. You don't say how old you are. The best thing would be see a Gastroenterologist (Specialist on the Digestive system) and have a 'screening colonoscopy'. If there is anything wrong, it will detect it, but otherwise will give the Doctor an idea of what your system is like when it is normal. Just keep screened. But don't worry about it. Many people with close family members who have it never get anything and as I say, others-at least to their knowledge-don't have anybody with it and they get it. So be checked to be sure.

Yes, colon cancer is to a great degree genetic. Here is a link for you to read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colon_Cancer
2 :
cancer isnt necessarily genetic , some say it is and some say not , i would have to say for anyone ,whether cancer is in the family or not has a 50/50 chance . the thing with cancer is it can strike anyone at anytime. the colon is in the digestive tract
3 :
a colon is another name for the large intestine.. in the large intestine, excess water is reabsorbed by the body, which changes the consistency of our poop. you have a big chance of acquiring it but it can be intervened through diet. it is one of the few modifiable (means large chances of not acquiring it) cancers. you should eat a lot more food rich in fiber because it helps "sweep" the colon with food residues (food excess that gets in between the folds of the large intestine which causes it to irritate). the exact cause of cancer is unknown but it is somehow identified that constant irritation of an organ causes it to mutate thus developing cancer like constant smoking irritates the alveoli in lungs thus developing lung cancer. if in case that you WILL acquire it, early detection is very important so that early intervfention can be made. when you reached or if you are already in your forties, monitor your bowel movements. when you feel irregularities in your bowel like change n frequencies or you see blood, GO TO THE DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY! occult blood test is also helpful to detect early presence of abnormalities.

Help...colon cancer

Help...colon cancer!!?
i have a bloody stool and abdominal cramps, can this be colon cancer? my grandmother died from it at an early age....i've also havent had my period for over a month but i'm not sexually active and haven't been since early december? can colon cancer be the cause of that?

Blood in the stool needs to be checked out ASAP. It could be just a sign of internal bleeding or it could be cancer. Most likely you are just bleeding from somewhere but either way you need to go see the doc and get it checked out. Not having a period for over a month is probably because you are ill and stressed out.
2 :
i don't know if it could be or not but you should really go to the doctor to see. My aunt found out she had colon cancer a week ago and they did surgery bout 4 hours ago and while they were in there they found out that the cancer has taken over her liver and in her blood and other places. She has had cancer for a while now and didn't even know it. She has to go to Chemo and if that doesn't get rid of the other cancer there is nothing else they can do. She found she had colon cancer by a mistake so since u think u might have it I would really go get it checked out, you don't want it to spread if you do.
3 :
get to your doctor and have a stool sample done. you shouldn't be bleeding rectally....he could check to see if there are hemorrhoids.... You might have been constipated for a bit and developed internal hemorrhoids which have broken open whenyou had a bm. the cramping could have been from built up gas .... ....
4 :
If you're having bloody stool you should see a doctor. I just had to get a colonoscopy because I had blood after bowel movements. They did it, and ruled out colon cancer. But everyone is different and if you have a family history of it, then it may have more of a chance of being a possibility. But the only way to know is to see a doctor, and the sooner the better. Good luck and im sure you'll be ok : )
5 :
Hi i am a nurse in the state of S.C. What you have discribed can be s/s of colon cancer. And the fact that your monthly periods have stopped gives me greater concern there is also a family history of cancer PLEASE seek medical attention. Colon cancer is one of the easiest to treat IF caught early.Ovarien ca. on the other hand is harder ,so please go to see a doctor as soon as you can take care of yourself Searching
6 :
Do not panic and don't make any assumptions either way. See a doctor about your concerns, this isn't the place for serious medical advice. We all mean well but every person is different- only a professional that you see in person is able to give you any meaningful information in a circumstance like this.
7 :
With a grandmother with cc at an early age, and your symptoms - I would definitely get a colonoscopy. Do not settle for a barium enima or flex sigmodoscopy as they are not good test for cc. I was diagnosed with advance stage IV cc Jan 2006 at the age of 40. Do not let your doctor ignore your concerns. Wendy www.wendysbattle.com
8 :
Normally there is no pain associated with colon cancer unless there is a blockage, the blood can be from several sources and depending upon how much blood you have in your stools could be the cause of you missed periods. I would make an appointment with your doctor with out delay, I wouldn't worry about anything until you know for sure, even if the news is bad, just resolve to beat it. I did 36 years ago
9 :
are you sure the blood is from your stool? you could be having your period, and no, it more than likely isnt cancer, but go to the doctor to make sure.

Do I have colon cancer

Do I have colon cancer?
Recently when i have been going number 2 Ive been bleeding out of my butt, sometimes my lower stomach hurts too I read that colon cancer is most common in 30 - 50 year olds but I'm only 17 could i have colon cancer?

It depends where your bleeding and what colour the blood is. If there is blood in your poo, then you may be bleeding intestinally, or if you have noticed dark/brown blood in the toilet bowl it could indicate cancer or an obstruction in your colon/bowl. But usually if the blood is bright red and appears on your toilet paper, or bright red in the toilet bowl, you may just have an anal fissure or hemorrhoids, which you can easily get creams for at a chemist. But I would definitely go and see a doctor just incase because it may be very serious! Hope you feel better soon!
2 :
That often happens..doesnt mean you have colon cancer..but what you can do is buy some Tri Fiber Complex, Psylluim Husks, Acidophilus, Peppermint Oil Combonation..check it out by going to www.swansonvitamins.com I have another if i find it, ill give you the site to that one too
3 :
The only way to know for sure and to put your own mind at ease is to make an appointment with your doctor :)
4 :
Only a medical doctor can tell for sure.
5 :
Although colon cancer is more common in people aged 30-50, it can effect young adults too (it's just more rare). If you are having any doubts, PLEASE get checked out by your doctor.
