I am making an educated guess here: fat or estrogen.

Fat is the answer! Here's why (Process of elimination) estrogen = female hormone -- but not every female has colon cancer testosterone = male hormone -- not all males have colon cancer as a result virus -- DNA/RNA feed into cells --> sick with disease (such as HIV, cold, etc) UV light - only affects epidermis of skin

I'd guess a virus. Excess fat in your diet *can* increase your risk of colon cancer - but that is believed to be because it induces constipation, which means that any other carcinogens in your diet stay in your colon longer, and have more of a chance to damage your cells. Oestrogen and testosterone are steroid hormones that are naturally made by your body. Again, they *may* have some cancer-promoting action, but this is via "standard" cell-signalling causes (like by inducing cell division), and not by actual mutagenic action. UV light is a mutagen and a carcinogen - but it is not normally found up your butt ;-) Viruses: there are viruses called oncoviruses, which can cause cancer when they invade your cells (papillomavirus is an example that causes warts and, sometimes, skin cancer). The presence of such viruses in your intestine could potentially cause colon cancer.
