Hi Ed, I have never had the surgery or worked for this facility, but I live in Torrance and know people that have. VA hospitals do not have the best reputation, but the West LA hospital does. You are not telling much about your condition, but the majority of patients have the section of the colon where the tumor is located removed and the two remaining ends are attached to each other. It is kind of like repairing a damaged piece of a garden hose. The surgeon will take a look around to make sure everything else around it looks okay and will check your liver for disease. The tumor will be sent to pathology where it will be staged and lymph nodes will be tested and they should test at least 12 of them. Most patients are in the hospital about 4 days and you should have the results before you are discharged.

No knowledge of that particular facility. I had colon cancer surgery laproscopically three years ago. No complications, 4 day hospital stay and didn't need pain meds after removal of epidural on day 3. Good Luck!
