Possibly Colon or Stomach Cancer?
So not too long ago I started having abdominal pains. It hasn't been too bad and it has been rather on and off for a couple of days - most recently it's hardly shown up if at all. In between the duration of when it started I noticed what I thought to be bright red blood on the very end of one stool - which also happens to be the only appearance of the possible blood that I have noticed. I think it looks more narrow but unfortunately I'm not sure considering I don't usually look to make the comparison. I have no history of either cancer in my family. I'm usually very tired and somewhat un-energetic but unfortunately it's hard to use that as a symptom because I only get 4-5 hours of sleep and have a poor diet and sometimes don't have lunch. I have always been underweight and somewhat pale I suppose. Last time I was at the doctor I was told I have a lot of anxiety and need to stop worrying so much. Do you think it's the same case this time around or does colon cancer seem fairly likely? Though I'm well aware that diseases don't pick ages to affect you, I'm 18. Regarding as to any other symptoms relating to stools etc. I'm not sure, It has cycled through types 3-6 on the Bristol Stool Chart - I did my research! :) I remember change in bowel habits being mentioned but I'm not sure if it was a single change or constantly changing or if it even makes a difference. Though with that being said, from what I recall, it was fine until I noticed the possible blood and started with the "impending doom" feeling. I'm not saying that to rule out anything - but I don't know if that had an effect. Thanks for the responses! I intend on getting checked out by a doctor anyway - whether it's with the intention of seeing if I have a disease or just to ease my mind.

It is hard to say. Are you having any other symptoms like diarrhea? The doctor can check your stool for blood. You would need to have a rectal exam to check it. Bloody stool usually warrants a colonoscopy. Anxiety can cause stomach problems like pain and diarrhea.

See your doctor for a diagnosis. It is unlikely to be colon cancer.

Stress can turn your stomach upside down and inside out. The little bit of red blood could possibly from a hemorrhoid. See your doctor again and ask him to check if there is blood in your stool. Also you could ask for a sigmoidoscopy or a colonoscopy. (Basically the same except the colonoscopy goes further) Neither of these tests have i founfd to be uncomfortable. You receive a relaxant. Ask your doc to do some bloodwork. Maybe you are anemic. Ask for a full CBC. Meanwhile get a good book on techniques for coping with stress. doubtful anything serious. Diet and stress!!!!!!!!

If there was no such thing as stress, 1/3 of our doctors would have to find another job. it is unlikely this is cancer, but you should listen to the dr and see what happens. I'll bet you feel better. Worry about cancer? No. Be concerned about cancer? Yes! Early detction is the best treatment there is. Good luck.

I was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 4 @ the age of 40 yrs old. Symptoms that occurred which I had no idea that they would find a tumor in the colon. Low abdominal pain, constipation, I did have a appetite but no weight gain. It lasted for about 1 yr before the pain got so severe & asked my husband to take me to the ER. It took 3 ER visits before they acutually find out what was wrong. No X-ray, MRI would indicate that there was a tumor. I felt good other than those symptoms. No family hx of colon cancer, only breast cancer. My suggestions, make an appointment to have a colonoscopy done before its too late. I am still struggling w/cancer. It did return after 1 1/2 yr after my surgery and treatment. This time it returned in my lung which was caught early and went through radiation. Get check dont hold off too long, better safe than sorry.

Do i have colon cancer

Do i have colon cancer?
Recently when i have been going number 2 Ive been bleeding out of my butt, sometimes my lower stomach hurts too I read that colon cancer is most common in 30 - 50 year olds but I'm only 17 could i have colon cancer?

when blood is found outside of your body its time to call a doctor... doctors can help you with this sort of thing.

My husband's dad of 55 years old was diagnosed with colon cancer yesterday. Everyone is scared and miserable. My question is, "how long after you are diagnosed do you die of cancer? They are talking of surgery is that a smart move being that he is diabetic. Don't they say that diabetic wounds take longer to heal? My biggest fear is for my husband who is also diabetic and refuses to eat healthy. He eats everything is not suppose to eat as a diabetic. He loves greasy and fatty food and eats for the taste. I feel so helpless because everyone is sad and crying. I am the only strong one and I am making alot of the decisions.

How long will he live? Could be a short time or a long time. I am a 5 year colon cancer survivor and plan on many more. How long he lives will be determined by what stage of cancer he is in. It's tough to do right now, but wait until after the surgery is over before you panic too much. If all they are talking about is surgery, it may not be too advanced. I had surgery, radiation, and chemo.. It is true that some diabetics have trouble healing, but they will take that into consideration during his recovery process.. It would definitely improve your husband's health on so many levels if he ate healthier, and a high fat diet is one of the contributing factors to colon cancer. The best thing your husband can do is talk to his doctor about a colonoscopy and let the doctor determine when he needs his first one based on family history. It's the best way to detect colon cancer early. The earlier it is found, the better the chances for survival. You've porbably heard colon cancer is one of the most deadly forms of cancer and it is true, but mostly because people avoid the colonoscopies and it isn't found until the later stages when it is harder to treat. Much depends on the state of advancement of the cancer at the time of diagnosis. Colon cancer, however, is normally not detected until well advanced, simply because it is asymptomatic until well advanced. It tends to metastasize to nearby organs, mostly the liver. I can only recommend following the advice of the treating physician(s). However, as far as your HUSBAND is concerned, have him scheduled for a screening colonoscopy soon. Colon cancer runs heavily in heredity, and your husband's chances of colon cancer have just increased a lot, given that he has at least one parent who developed the disease. Nearly ALL colon cancer develops from rectal/colon polyps which are not removed. It's actually the familial tendency to develop polyps which causes the disease heredity. Well over 90% of colon cancer can be prevented by polyp removal. Normally folks are recommended to have their first screening colonoscopy around age 50, but with his father's situation, that drops a decade or so. Get him in there ASAP.

it is true that it takes diabetics longer to heal . i have had my left leg amputated and a double transplant,as you can imagine those were Major surgeries. it look about 3 weeks longer to heal but as long as he keeps his blood sugar under good control that will help heal faster. i pray that things go Good with him and i Will keep him in my prayers.

A new person (above me) has begun to promote a scam cure for diabetes. Beware of this kind of junk. Only the doctors treating your father-in-law can give you a prognosis. You really do need to get your husband in for screening, however. Colon cancer is one of the few, if not the only, cancer that can be prevented by screening - because they can remove pre-cancerous polyps at that time. Colon cancer has a strong hereditary component, so he needs this test.

It's possible but VERY rare. It's most likely just how your body is made. Try adding alot of fiber to your diet and lots of natural sugars like fruits. Also apple juice helps a great deal! If you feel like you have a problem that needs medical attention, by all means, see a doctor but most likely you don't have cancer : )

People can have cancer at any age, even babies get it. But cancer is rare in young people & you don't really have any obvious sign. like bleeding which would be a concern. Being constipated can be a problem but dietary changes might help as could taking a stool softened like colace (over the counter pill) daily which might help regulate you.Unless you have other symptoms, like stomach pains & vomiting though, I doubt that cancer is your problem. My uncle has had colon cancer for about 6 months. Now he has had ascites drained twice within the last month. Is this a symptom of worsening disease or mets? He thinks maybe the doctor messed up doing his colon resection, but I do not agree with him? Any ideas?

The ascites, the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, can be due to multiple reasons. The top on my list would be poor nutrition. The patient may be unable to absorb enough electrolytes if the colon is too short. Yes, there may also be liver malfunction. Also maybe due to poor nutrition, hepatits, alcoholic liver disease and yes a possibllity of metastases to the liver that may be causing end stage liver disease. Your uncle needs to discuss with his doctor his concerns and get appropriate answers for himself.

First off, if he is having ascites frequently after surgery, he probably should be checked out by another doctor. It could mean that some cancer was missed, or it has already metastasized into the liver. It could be a complication of surgery. But either way, he needs to be checked out again.

He was diagnosed with a rare abdominal sarcoma. By the time he was diagnosed he was already stage IV with multiple masses. This process irritates the walls of the abdomen causing an accumulation of fluid called ascites. He was fortunate as he was able to eliminate 30 pounds of the fluid with a diuretic. But he was extremely bloated in the abdomen and fluid in the legs and ankles. As a secondary health issue he also developed blood clots during this episode. Ascites can be very uncomfortable for the patient, but they can drain it or use a diuretic. Unfortunately, in many abdominal cases the fluid can return. What I know about advanced cases is that this can indicate a progression of disease. It's hard to say though with your uncle. My son was able to undergo high dose chemo, 2 surgeries, and has come a long, long way since he was first diagnosed. He also underwent an experimental surgery called intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemoperfusion to address the small and microscopic disease on the diaphragm and in the abdomen. Do asians get colon cancer?
My girlfriend is from Northern China. Recently she has been having a host of weird bowel symptoms: narrow, soft stools, with mucus, constipation, diarrea, etc. She does not admit to any blood in her stool though. I told she should get a colonoscopy, but she told me that asians don't get colon cancer, only blacks and whites are at risk. Is this true? She is 19 by the way.

Anyone from anywhere can get any kind of cancer. Your girlfriend needs to stop thinking that her race is special. Anyway, yes, they can get colon cancer. Less common, sure, but still possible. Kinda odd that you're checking out her poop. It sounds like ibs or colitis, not cancer. The mucous is a big clue.

Ha! anyone can get colon cancer or any cancer for that matter. Here is something to know about your stool and your colon. If her stool is thin and long... (think a snake) consistantly then she most likely has a problem with her colon. It is very rare for a 19 yr old to have colon cancer. If she is really worried then she needs to get checked
