Colon cancer can have many symptoms. However, in the early stages, people with colon cancer often have no symptoms at all. This is why people should know how colon cancer spread and regular screening beginning at 50 is an important investment in your healthy future. 1. A change in bowel habits 2. Diarrhea, constipation or feeling that the bowel does not empty completely 3. Blood, either bright red or very dark in the stool 4. Stools that are narrower than usual 5. General abdominal discomfort such as frequent gas pains, bloating, fullness or cramps 6. Weight loss with no known reason 7. Constant tiredness 8. Vomiting
2 :
Though bright blood can be one symptom, it's not the only one, and it's not necessarily cancer. The brighter the blood, the further down the colon or rectum it could be. For example, it could be hemorrhoids, it could be a polyp, gastrointeritis, irritable bowel syndrom, etc. The younger he is, the less likely it's colon cancer--it usually doesn't occur until you're at least 40, though it can happen earlier. If he's concerned, though, he should see a gastrointerologist and have a colonoscopy done. That's the only way to know for sure.

What is the difference between a pollup and cancer in one's colon/anus

What is the difference between a pollup and cancer in one's colon/anus?

A polyp is a benign growth. It's not cancerous. That's the difference, but if polyps aren't removed, they can become cancerous.
2 :
A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue (tumor) projecting from a mucous membrane. If it is attached to the surface by a narrow elongated stalk it is said to be pedunculated. If no stalk is present it is said to be sessile. Polyps are commonly found in the colon, stomach, nose, sinus(es), urinary bladder and uterus. Colon polyps are uncommonly associated with symptoms. Occasionally rectal bleeding, and on rare occasions pain, diarrhea or constipation may occur because of colon polyps. Colon polyps are a concern because of the potential for colon cancer being present microscopically and the risk of benign colon polyps transforming with time into colon cancer Most cases of colon cancer begin as small, noncancerous (benign) clumps of cells called adenomatous polyps. Over time some of these polyps become colon cancers. Polyps may be small and produce few, if any, symptoms. Regular screening tests can help prevent colon cancer by identifying polyps before they become cancerous
3 :
A polyp is an abnormal tissue. It can be malignant or benign. Benign is non-cancerous. Malignant is cancerous. Pathology done on the polyp would reveal this.
4 :
In agreement with hac-a polyp can be cancerous-I had one polyp-it looked funny to the doc and he suspected it was already cancer and he was right. So at some point a polyp may turn to cancer.

Do I have sign of colon cancer

Do I have sign of colon cancer?
Well I'm only 13 but my family has a history of colon cancer and the last BM I had kind of scared me. Its only happened once so far but after I wiped there was a ton of bright red blood. I was wondering if this was a sign of anything related to colon cancer?

If it's bright red, it's near the end and is likely a hemorrhoid or a small tear.
2 :
Don't panic. It could be as simple as hemorrhoids. There are a number of conditions that have bright blood as a symptom, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. You should definitely tell your mom or dad or both. They will know what to do. Just don't panic yet. If you strain a lot when having bowel movements or are constipated it's most likely a hemorrhoid. Hope this helps. But please talk to your parents.

Colorectal cancer in its early stages usually doesn't cause any symptoms. Symptoms occur later, when the cancer may be more difficult to treat. The most common symptoms include: * Pain in the belly. * Blood in your stool or very dark stools. * A change in your bowel habits (such as more frequent stools or a feeling that your bowels are not emptying completely). * Fatigue. * In rare cases, unexplained weight loss. Colon cancer may cause no symptoms. When there are symptoms, they may depend on where in the colon the cancer is.2 * The cecum and ascending colon, the first and second parts of the colon, are on the right side of your abdomen. Cancer in this area may bleed, causing blood in the stool and symptoms of anemia, including fatigue and weakness. The amount of blood may be small and so well mixed with stool that your stool may look normal. Sometimes cancer in this area does not cause many symptoms. * The transverse colon, the third part, goes across your body from right to left. Cancer here may cause abdominal cramps. * The descending colon, the fourth part, and the S-shaped sigmoid colon, the fifth part, are on the left side of your abdomen and join the rectum. Cancer here may cause narrower stools and bright red blood in the stool. Sometimes this blood is mistakenly thought to come from hemorrhoids. Having these symptoms does not mean you have cancer. A number of other medical problems could cause similar symptoms, including: * Irritable bowel syndrome, a common digestive problem that causes periods of stomach pain, cramping or bloating, and diarrhea or constipation. * Other growths (polyps) in the large intestine that are not cancer. * Diverticulitis, a condition in which pouches form in the wall of the colon and become painful, swollen, or infected. * Infections that cause diarrhea, such as salmonella. * Inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which cause swelling and sores in the intestines. * Bleeding hemorrhoids. * Ulcers of the rectum.

This is one symptom of colon cancer, but it is not likely if it is the only symptom and certainly not at your age. Unless your family members who had colon cancer were either your parents or a sibling in their 30s or younger when diagnosed it is not likely for it to be hereditary. You may be at a higher risk for it when you get older though. From 2001-2005 0.1% of all colon cancers occurred in people under 20 years of age. Rectal bleeding at your age is not good and is a sign of a poor diet. Get more fiber, drink plenty of water and tell your parents. It is very unlikely to be serious, but it is a warning sign to make some changes.
5 :
if you had to strain pretty hard to go, and it hurt coming out, you most likely tore your anal canal a little bit. that would cause the bleeding. If you stay constipated, drink a lot of water, and see if there's a laxative for kids. Water goes directly to the colon, which helps keep your bowels moving smoothly, but sometimes constipation can be a side effect of another medication. I doubt you have cancer, dear, you are too young.

Only radiologists and doctors are able to properly read them.
2 :
A radiologist has to read it. Never try to interpret your own studies, even the techs that do the tests are wrong sometimes. Or are you saying that he report states that there is positive lymphovascular invasion?
